Historia
Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

I really wanted to like this book, I've had friends for years tell me I need to listen to it and was really let down. I googled it and turns out I'm not alone. Apparently, this book is supposed to be a parody but I didn't find it funny. The intro was a bit ridiculous. Some of the action sequences were pretty good and I was okay with the religious references, but the computer stuff annoyed me. spoilers ahead.
BIOS does not mean built-in operating system, there's no such thing. Binary is just base 2 in math. It's not some magical language that computers understand. Taking a binary built for one architecture won't work on another. The whole premise of "binary bouncing around for years" was just utter nonsense. It reminded me of Wanted's binary code that was on the loom of fate. The reason A is A in binary is because it's based on the ASCII table, otherwise A would be 1. The "medicine" and "virus" was akin to Independence Day's computer virus affecting an alien ship. A person's brain is not a computer so there would be no reason for it to follow a program. I really struggled to get through the book because of all of these problems. Just because something is a parody, it doesn't mean that rules go out the window. There were other issues with certain aspects of the book, but the binary and coding issues were what got under my skin.

A bit repetitive, but good overall
Revisado: 03-21-24
As to not give any spoilers there were certain aspects that were explained and then they kept repeating the same thing in different ways 3 or more times from various characters. Imagine going to a restaurant and dropping a $100 tip for a $5 meal and then 5 or 6 different people say the same thing about how generous it is and how nobody else would just leave $100 tip unless they're rich and they wouldn't eat here if they were rich and more characters keep bringing this up over and over. To me, that was the most difficult thing to get past. The narration was great and overall the story was pretty entertaining. I'm not certain that I will continue the series but I'm glad I at least made it through the first book.

I jumped in blind
Revisado: 02-06-24
I bought this after seeing Wil Wheaton post on Instagram. I had no preconceptions and didn't even read the synopsis, I just took a leap of faith. I was not disappointed. Most of what I would want to type is actually already in the 'About the Book,' so if it sounds interesting, I would take a chance on the book.

This felt like a movie
Revisado: 02-06-24
The premise reminded me a bit of the first Saw movie or Cube, because the characters are trapped and don't know why they are there, but they know they need to escape. The way the scenes in the book are laid out, it seems like it could easily be adapted to a movie. I found myself wanting to guess at who trapped them or was responsible, but knew I was missing information. It's a pretty short listen and I enjoyed it.

I couldn't finish the series
Revisado: 02-06-24
I have enjoyed all of the Soundbooth Theater books that I've listened to, so I didn't hesitate to get this one. I expected it to be very 'Groundhog Day' and it was anything but that. I don't know if that swayed my feelings towards the book, but I had to kind of force myself to at least finish the first book. I listened to a portion of book 2, but I really lost interest in it.

Unexpected Office Adventures
Revisado: 02-06-24
Working as tech support for many years and part of that time was overnight, I really felt a kinship with James. I felt as if the story started a bit slow for me, but by the end, I couldn't wait to jump into the next book. The creatures in the story are pretty unique compared to other litRPGs I've experienced, as is the level up system.

Historia
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

I enjoyed it, but...
Revisado: 02-06-24
I really loved the cast and performances and the story was pretty good. I had 2 problems with the book, and one I won't mention as to not spoil anything. The other was that one of the characters seemed very immature. I kept having to remind myself that they were an older teen and not an 8-9 year old. A very enjoyable adventure overall.

Historia
Fresh out of rehab, Mallory Quinn takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory immediately loves it. She has her own living space, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman’s lifeless body.

I didn't read the synopsis
Revisado: 08-11-23
I struggled with the first couple of chapters and then it started to get kind of interesting. Once the supernatural stuff kicked in, it reminded me of one of those movies that shows the supernatural side then the scientific answer and I didn't know which way the book was going. I did enjoy the story overall, and there were a few times where I thought "this is going to trigger a lot of people, there needed to be some kind of trigger warning upfront" and then I realized, oh yeah, I never read the synopsis, there might be one. I loved The Impossible Fortress, so I jumped into this one without looking. I really enjoyed the narration/voice acting.

Since Lady Luck had sent Doc to this weird, western world, a lot had happened. It started in Deep Gulch, a small mining town in what he would have called Colorado if he’d been on Earth. Doc hit the ground running, making enemies and friends from his very first day.

I think the horse is dead
Revisado: 02-27-23
Andrea killed it (the performance), it was amazing. I was laughing hysterically with her during the bloopers at the end. Daniel seems to be beating a dead horse trying to convey the same message over and over in this series. It's been a bit annoying at times, but overall, I've enjoyed the story and I'm too many books in to quit now.

Historia
Life had gotten both better and more chaotic for Doc—he’d already been happy with Fiala and Sonya as his wives, but then Ayla and Lia joined his family. To top it off, he collared the willing dryad, Rosa. With five wives at his side, Doc had a full house of love. He was still in the town of Deep Gulch, needing to achieve the mission Luck had given him. When Sheriff Grange killed Mayor Goodman, it removed the least of Doc’s troubles while showing that Grange was clearly a problem. Even with the Mayor out of the way, there was still plenty to take care of.

Andrea does it again
Revisado: 01-27-23
I have a love hate relationship with Daniel's books. The Harem themes are a bit much for me, but overall I like the story's main idea and I feel like I'm already super committed since I'm on book 4... might as well see what happens. Andrea's performance is amazing as always, and I couldn't stop laughing with the bloopers after the book.
