Historia
The Confederation has fought three wars against the forces of the totalitarian Union. Three generations of its warriors have gone off to war, held the line against the larger, more powerful enemy. Now the fourth conflict is imminent, and the Confederation's navy is on alert, positioned behind the frontier, waiting for the attack it knows is coming.

change of narrator
Revisado: 02-24-19
This story is slow to start. Luke Daniels is a great narrator but I just noticed that he's only narrating the first book of the series. then they switch to Jeffrey Kafer who I don't care for so I won't be going further. I'm already struggling to get through this one.

Historia
Children are not supposed to rescue their parents, life is supposed to be the other way around. And rescues aren't supposed to be needed on the trip out to the new colony planet Valhalla. Slow, yes. Boring, yes. Dangerous? No, the trip is not supposed to be dangerous, never has been. When thieves attack the transport ship to steal an ancient alien artifact, and young Kaylee and her brother, Manny, are cut off from their parents, they have to stop the thieves from getting what they want.

Did I miss the YA rating somewhere?
Revisado: 08-28-18
Hard to believe this is by the same Craig Alanson that wrote Expeditionary Force. The story is weak and poorly crafted, maybe this is an early attempt by the author? It seems more appropriate as a pre-teen or young adult story. Struggled to reach the middle, can't.... continue... Seriously, I'm half way through and couldn't care less what happens. This story has in no way grabbed my attention. And the narrator.... Oy. I've listened to one other book narrated by MacLeod Andrews (Mars One, good book, check it out) and he was terrific. I'm not sure I can say he makes this story worse but he adds absolutely nothing to it. No.... no, his voices for the little kids in the story definitely make it worse.

Captain Keyes is loved by the public but hated by Command. He captains the UHS Providence, an aging supercarrier and the last human ship not dependent on dark tech - technology humanity has used to rule over the galaxy since barely defeating the Ixa in the First Galactic War.

disjointed, hard to follow
Revisado: 03-09-18
I struggled with this and ultimately just couldn't get into it. It's written as if the author expects the reader to already know what's going on, like starting a trilogy with Book 2.

Historia
Shell-shocked and missing a foot-lost to an IED during his tour of duty in Afghanistan, Captain Tom Forsyth has been sent "home" by the army and returns to his estranged mother's house. But Josephine Kauri, the "first lady of British racing", has always put the horses she trains first and her family last. Tom soon finds himself strained to the breaking point with his mother and stepfather. But there's another reason for the stifling tension at Kauri House Stables: Josephine is being blackmailed for a hefty sum every week - and forced to make her horses lose.

Loved it!
Revisado: 01-31-12
Would you listen to Crossfire again? Why?
I've never read/listened to a Dick Francis story I didn't like. Some are better than others but every one of them is enjoyable. While Mr. Francis co-wrote with is son, it is a Dick Francis story through and through. If you are a Dick Francis fan you'll not be disappointed.
What does Martin Jarvis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator, Martin Jarvis, does a wonderful job bringing all the characters to life and giving them each their own unique voice. It just wouldn't be as enjoyable without his British accent help to set the story.
