Save your $$$
Revisado: 03-31-22
This is my first title from this author. I don't know if this was one of her earlier works but it certainly felt like it. It was definitely not as polished as I was expecting from an author with so many books.
I actually tried listening to this a few months ago and quit because I was too irritated to care anymore. I decided I'd give this book another try. I realized pretty quickly why I quit on it the first time.
1. Talon (the H) comes across like Eeyore's bipolar cousin. His self-deprecating inner dialog is just TOO much, and his actions contradict everything going on in his head. If you have hated books because the h was so whiny and irritating, you're in for a real treat with this one, because he is worse.
2. There's tons of drama about "secrets" and everyone is supposed to "just leave it alone" but there are very few real crumbs to follow. There is far too much missing for this story to develop.
3. The female narrator Neva Navarre was new to me. I wouldn't say she was a bad narrator but she didn't feel well-suited to Jade's character. Jade makes the point of labeling herself as a "nice person" and making attempts to help others. However, she comes across as very snooty in the narration. I found it very hard to like her.
4. Jade also has difficulty knowing what side of the fence she's on. She professes to care for Talon, but she's quick to cut him off. There's far too much whiplash! As I said, she's hard to like.
5. There are several instances where Sebastian York sounds like he is reading rather than telling the story. He usually sounds great so this was both surprising and disappointing.
6. There is an abundance of heat in this book. But sadly, it just doesn't flow with the story. The same whiplash issue repeats. It goes from we can't be together one minute to porn-star sex the next. Some of the scenes are reminiscent of other reads. If you read 50 Shades and the Crossfire series, you'll probably pick up on that too. There is a lot of repetition and the wording feels clunky at times.
To summarize, you have characters that you can't relate to because they are all over the place. I could not get invested in either of the main characters. You also have lots of drama with very little backstory and almost no plot development. And finally, the narration does not contribute to the story at all.
If I had paid for this title, I would have requested a refund. After reading the entire book, you realize you got a lot of words but not an actual story. There is zero chance I will pay for the MANY additional titles in this series. I am stumped by the five-star ratings posted for this book. What on earth are these people reading to base that standard? SMH!

Historia
I would like to say we were old lovers. That once upon a time he was my everything, and I was his, but that would be a lie. He may have been mine, but I wasn’t his. I was his sister’s annoying little friend who he didn’t even know was in love with him. Years later, after seeing him again for the first time, nothing has changed. Except now, he notices me, and I will do everything in my power to avoid him. Because Falcon is the most conceited man on this planet, and because when he looks at me with steel eyes, my heart still misses a beat.

Couldn't do it
Revisado: 03-23-22
This book was far too irritating to finish. Ariel was so stupid. She acted like an immature child and continually made stupid decisions. Frankly, I couldn't take anymore. I gave up on Chapter 24, when after everything else she demanded to know "everything" because she deserved it after everything that had happened. I threw in the towel when Falcon started spilling info even though she clearly should never have been trusted.
Sure, we see characters make poor choices in these stories, but usually, they figure things out and get their crap together. Not here, Ariel kept picking up more steam as she went with no hint of redemption in sight. Once I found myself with two stupid characters, I stopped caring what happened. Another drag was the change in the supporting characters. In the two previous books, everyone came off likable to a certain extent, even if they weren't always warm. All of those personas really cooled in this title. Everyone seemed very hard & cold (Echo, Darby & Creed). Even Alicia was reserved and less friendly feeling. It was just bad vibes all around for me on this one. I have no interest in continuing the series since I'm not going to finish this book. If I change my mind later, I don't see that as an issue, since there was very little carryover from the other's stories in the newer titles. I found this disappointing because you only get to the point of the affirmed relationships. You don't get to see anything develop further.
I had been excited to start this one because Ava Erickson is one of my favorite narrators. That stung a bit since I ended up hating Ariel so much. Alexander Cendese just sounded weird and it made this book feel different from the previous titles immediately - not in a good way.

It was just okay for me...
Revisado: 03-21-22
LB is a solid author with tons of great titles! The narration in her books is generally epic. Unfortunately, this one wasn't a big hit for me. I enjoyed the plot and the characters, but Erin Mallon's sing-song narration really irritated me and I think it affected my overall feel for the book. Joe Arden was good.

He was a stranger to me, a dark and dangerous presence who materialized from the shadows one rainy night to save me from a vicious attack. I didn’t know his name or where he was from. All I knew was that the only place I’d ever felt safe was in his arms. But safety is an illusion. And not every savior is a hero. And - as I’d soon find out - having a king save your life comes with a price. Liam Black wanted something from me in return.

Revisado: 03-19-22
I think Truvy summed it nicely enough! I had previously read this title through Kindle. I loved the Black boys and decided to check out the audio version after listening to the delicious Queens and Monsters series. Troy Duran is just Sooo perfect for these roles ! Marnye Young felt awkward though. Maybe she was chosen for the southern draul ? IDK but she sounded much older than the character was written to be.
I still Love Liam & Killian and I bet you will too.

Excellent!
Revisado: 03-18-22
First off, I actually started this series based on the duet narration from Tor Thom and Charley Ongel. This author was new to me and I am generally not a fan of fairy tale renditions.
I was surprised that I ended up liking this story as much as I did. It's very well written and the duet narration is amazing. I was fully engaged and anxious to start the next title in the series as soon as the last page was turned. There are dark twisted components to the story that may be triggering to some, but I think it was injected well. It adds depth and understanding to the H's character development.
I am surprised that there aren't more reviews for this one- it is definitely credit-worthy and I hope more readers give it a shot.
Personally, I've read a lot of good books - that have crappy audio versions. Because of that, I think it's important to weigh in on the ones that are done very well. So that: 1) they get on the radar of other avid readers, and 2) the authors can be recognized for making the effort to have the audio done well. That is just something for you to keep in mind if you (like myself) find that you have spent far too much money/credits on audiobooks that truly suck.

A valley full of secrets. A history full of nightmares. A man who cannot be saved. And a woman who holds his very life in her hands. Strange how the villain of a story can so easily become the victim. Utter lunacy to think the captive might now become the caregiver.

Awesome story ~ Well written ~ With phenomenal narration!!!
This was a no-brainer one-click after finishing Book 2. Each story in the series is complete -No cliffhangers. However, the characters are intertwined throughout the titles in this series so it would be best to start from the beginning to have a full understanding of all of the extenuating family/character dynamics involved in this realm.
Troy Duran, Michelle Sparks, and Brooke Daniels did a fantastic job narrating this story. Seriously, I cannot stress this enough. It's presented in a full-cast method. The narrators deliver witty banter, anger, laughter, and every other emotion this title evokes with a precision that raises this title to a whole new level. I truly hope this will eventually be the new standard.
Bravo to this author for ensuring that the audio version would be even more delicious than the printed copy.
I think this one might be my favorite so far, but they are all so good- it's really hard to choose. I'm sad that I have to wait for the next book. :(
I got excited when Killian Black (from - Beautifully Cruel & Cruel Paradise) made a cameo appearance in this title. I loved those titles when I read them and I am adding the audio versions to revisit while I wait for more from the Queens & Monsters series.
I have no affiliation with anyone. My reviews are independent and based on actual purchases. Having said that, I truly do not see how anyone could give less than 5 stars on this series.

Narration is OUTSTANDING!
Revisado: 03-16-22
This is a great story from an author I've really enjoyed previously. The characters were well developed and Kage was simply mouth-watering. All of the steam and suspense-driven twists brought everything together in a nice package.
What makes this title more than credit-worthy is the narration. The narrators did a phenomenal job. It's so far beyond the standard right now, it would be a real shame to miss out.
Each performer delivers the story as if it's playing out right in front of you. The voices match up with each character's description (very important IMO) and the inflection and emotion behind the words bring the story to life. There's also tons of witty banter that cracked me up.
I'm actually upset that It took me so long to get this one. But rest assured, I am starting the next book in this title immediately! This is definitely a new addition to my "favorites."
