Historia
This story is told through the jagged peephole of the author's awareness, examining her formative wounds and influences from the perspective of a woman who has now gained experience and wisdom. As she peers over her soul's shoulder, she recalls the chaos of her once-fragile childhood mind. She shudders as she is reminded of the sting of her lonely childhood, her feelings of abandonment, and her painful memories of being bullied.

What disappointed you about The Road Back to Me?
The author tells the story of her struggles in a dysfunctional family and dysfunctional relationships. Outside of mentioning that she read Melody Beattie's Books on CoDependence, there is nothing helpful about this book. The author describes her life at a low literacy level as if she were still in high school. She applies "big" words sporadically in an attempt to bring up the literacy level but the emotional intelligence remains in adolescence as she describes in detail her first tongue kiss. Unnecessary, rather disgusting, and poorly done.
What could Lisa A. Romano have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Lisa's life is no different than most people who grew up in Dysfunction Junction, let's be original (what's different than the other 1,000 books on dysfunctional families), helpful (what are the lessons learned and how can someone learn from your history and avoid the dysfunction or recognize it early), or at the very least, entertaining (throw some humor in here! the book began sounding like Eeyore and made a futile attempt toward a "good ending"
How did the narrator detract from the book?

Timeless like No Other Since
Revisado: 10-04-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. Gone with the Wind is a must read for everyone. While the push-me/pull-me and often explosive romance and sexual tension between Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler is what attracts many to this book, what kept me is the alignment with our own history in America. Margaret Mitchell did an amazing job capturing the history, physical, emotional, and moral environment consistent with the culture of the South during the period surrounding the Civil War.
Who was your favorite character and why?
While I love Scarlett's before her time feminism, I still believe the strongest character in the book is Mellanie Hamilton. She consistently upheld her moral and ethical values, even when it came time to protect her family, her decision between sin and protection upheld her dedication to family.
Which character – as performed by Linda Stephens – was your favorite?
Linda Stephens gave an exemplary performance on every character -- her accents were spot on and believable creating a sense of multiple characters from a single narrator.
If you could rename Gone with the Wind, what would you call it?

Historia
Countess Ellen Olenska, separated from her European husband, returns to old New York society. She bears with her an independence and an awareness of life which stirs the educated sensitivity of the charming Newland Archer, engaged to be married to her cousin, May Welland. Though he accepts the society's standards and rules he is acutely aware of their limitations. He knows May will assure him a conventional future but Ellen, scandalously separated from her husband, forces Archer to question his values and beliefs.

Return to the Age of Innocence
Revisado: 10-04-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Age of Innocence to be better than the print version?
I did not read the printed version of The Age of Innocence, but I did see the movie. I am one who typically watches movies first before reading books. I get extremely disappointed by reading the extraordinary details in the book and then the made-for-movie creative license taken by directors is unnerving. This case is no different, I was beyond thrilled with the book . The level of detail allows you to visualize each seen, feel the atmosphere of the rooms, the cool of the carriage rides in the evening, and the heat of unfulfilled passion.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Age of Innocence?
I cannot get out of my head the near encounter between Ellen Olenska and Newland Archer the night before she left to return to Europe. I completely appreciated this book for its moral integrity during The Age of Innocence but experienced the exact same reaction at the end as I did at the end of Gone with the Wind. I found myself frustrated and saying "And that's the way this ends???" for days after I completed the book.
What does David Horovitch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Great voice to listen to, although some pronunciations were awkward and were inconsistent with his accent.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The cunning surprise of May Welland Archer

Makes Great Sense
Revisado: 10-04-14
Where does Timeless Healing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I greatly appreciated Timeless Healing as it was a confirmation of some of the things I already knew about mind over matter. As an advanced practice nurse, I have a strong belief in what we can do with our own will to overcome and ward off illness and maintain wellness. It was also affirming to hear Dr. Benson's perspective on how we are wired to seek God.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Timeless Healing?
I already apply some of the principles of this book to my life, but will be taking it to a new level and have a new and broader perspective on mind over matter or what Dr. Benson refers to as "remembered wellness"
Any additional comments?
The only concern I have is only the abridged version is available on audio so I feel compelled to purchase the actual hard copy book in order to see what I've missed.

Assists with Sleep - Results Still Pending
Revisado: 10-04-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I do like this audiobook for falling asleep and getting better quality sleep. The jury is still out on the efficacy of the hypnosis and affirmations during sleep. I have yet to lose weight while using this program, but would assume this takes a fair amount of time.
If you’ve listened to books by Joel Thielke before, how does this one compare?
I have listened and really like other audiobooks by Joel. This one is a bit shorter than the others. When I listen to this book, my quality of sleep improves significantly, as evidenced by my FitBit monitor compared to days when I do not listen to these audiobooks. However, this is not a criticism of the book but a significant concern about the Audible requirements and copyright disclaimer. At the end of the audiobook, while I'm still solidly asleep after listening to the relaxing white noise of oceans, nature, and a soothing voice, at the end of this shorter audiobook all of a sudden a loud booming Audible voice comes on that startles me awake EVERY time. If it were one thing I would change about this audiobook would be to remove that interruption at the end of the book. The other recommendation I might make is to make the book longer in order to allow for a longer sleep cycle before the loud booming voice interrupts a deep sleep.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narration is great, its the closing Audible announcer at the end which is highly disruptive.
Was Increase Metabolism and Lose Weight Fast, Guided Meditation and Affirmations (Sleep Learning System) worth the listening time?
Yes, should be longer

Proven to Help with Sleep
Revisado: 10-04-14
Where does Attraction, Seduction, and Rapport, Guided Meditation and Affirmations rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
While I have not seen any definite improvement in my dating life, granted I've not really put myself out there, the book is full of positive affirmations. This book definitely helps with my quality of sleep. I wear a FitBit to monitor activity and sleep. On nights when I fall asleep listening to this book, my sleep is far less broken and restless than when I don't. I gain 1-2 hours more of solid, uninterrupted sleep when I listen to this book than when I do not.
What about Joel Thielke’s performance did you like?
Joel is easy to listen to, with a soothing tone. Some meditation audiobooks annoy me in the first five minutes. I've listened to this book or one of Joel Thiellke's other audiobooks 5 out of 7 nights a week and have only promoted positive sleep as opposed to anything negative about his voice or performance.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, that's actually the plan :)

What disappointed you about A Discovery of Witches?
The author blends a mix of the Twilight series with a touch of other typical romance novels to create two characters, not unlike Edward and Bella. Overprotective, old fashioned 500 year-old male attempting to guard the rather naive and headstrong damsel who does not realize her own powers, which happen to be stronger than any other witch in existence. They are avoiding consummating their "marriage" for fear of risking pregnancy. This story even comes fully equipped with their version of the Volturi out to destroy these star-crossed lovers who are breaking the rules of the congregation. The writing was annoyingly redundant. The conversations between characters were without depth. The reading was horrifying -- her voices and accents were almost embarrassing. In her American accent, she pronounced mobile phone as "mo-bile" with a long "I" as if she were from England. It's a stinking cell phone in Wisconsin sister!!
Harkens one back to an episode from Friends Season 10 Episode 3 "the One with Ross' Tan". Rachel and Monica's friend from Yonkers got called out for her annoying fake British accent. Her accents and voices would flip between characters and would change during the reading.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Gone with the Wind -- Can't go wrong. Need to erase what I just heard with a great classic.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jennifer Ikeda’s performances?
No thank you.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from A Discovery of Witches?
The beginning, middle, and probably the end
Any additional comments?
I took the sequels out of my wish list. Would not listen if they were in the "give away" section.
