Historia
May 1941. German paratroopers launch a blitzkrieg from the air against Crete. They are met with fierce defiance, the Greeks fighting back with daggers, pitchforks, and kitchen knives. During the bloody eleven-day battle, Alenka, a young Greek woman, saves the lives of two Australian soldiers. Jack and Teddy are childhood friends who joined up together to see the world. Both men fall in love with Alenka. They are forced to retreat with the tattered remains of the Allied forces over the towering White Mountains.

Good Read from Great Authot
Revisado: 10-04-24
Two of my top ten favorite books are written by Kate Forsyth, and so when I see a new book by her I try to snatch it up. This one was decent but not her usual.

Historia
Hen and her husband, Lloyd, have settled into a quiet life in a new house outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Hen (short for Henrietta) is an illustrator and works out of a studio nearby and has found the right meds to control her bipolar disorder. Finally, she’s found some stability and peace. But when they meet the neighbors next door, that calm begins to erode as she spots a familiar object displayed on the husband’s office shelf. The sports trophy looks exactly like one that went missing from the home of a young man who was killed two years ago.

predictable with raspy narration
Revisado: 09-08-24
unfortunately the author chose to use a fairly typical psych thriller option for the story's twist and I saw it coming fairly early and thus was just waiting for most of the book to see when the MC was going to find out. additionally the main narrators choice to speak in a deepened raspy tone aside from the one they use in intro and outro was a bit disjointed and I almost didn't finish the book because of it.

Only just Okay
Revisado: 09-05-24
While the narration was wonderful, the story was rushed, lacked investment into the characters or history, and the ending wanted to be tragic and happy all at once far too badly. The author seems to be trying to cram in all of the buzzword categories to draw in readers yet makes no investment into the story parts to stay committed long enough for them to be meaningful.

I have no words beyond the headline. This author romanticizes SA of a child. I could not stomach finishing this book either in audio or reading hard copy.

Historia
Life is a constant struggle for the 18-year-old Nowak twins as they raise their three younger siblings in rural Poland under the shadow of the Nazi occupation. The constant threat of arrest has made everyone in their village a spy, and turned neighbor against neighbor. Though rugged, independent Helena and pretty, gentle Ruth couldn't be more different, they are staunch allies in protecting their family from the threats the war brings closer to their doorstep with each passing day.

Historia
Eight-year-old Brooklyn Mercer has gone missing. And as accustomed as FBI agents Eliza Sterling and Brandon Eddison are to such harrowing cases, this one has struck a nerve. It marks the anniversary of the disappearance of Eddison’s own little sister. Disturbing, too, is the girl’s resemblance to Eliza - so uncanny they could be mother and daughter. With Eddison’s unsettled past rising again with rage and pain, Eliza is determined to solve this case at any cost. But the closer she looks, the more reluctant she is to divulge to her increasingly shaken partner what she finds.

I loved this series, but ending seemed haphazardly rushed for this one, which is disappointing. I continue to hope it is extended beyond a trilogy.
