We loved this book. The reader is excellent--very impressive characterizations for each character. It is very fun and funny. It also deals with issues of identity. We can't wait until the second book comes out on May 11th, 2011!

Awesome Book!

I don't think that the other reviewers actually read this book. Perhaps it is because Michael Chabon and I were born around the same time and have lived some similar experiences, but I thought this book was fantastic. I kept thinking as I would read a particular passage,"yes...I wish I had thought of that" or "I wish I could write like that". It is beautifully written essays about life that are remarkably ordinary and profound at the same time. I love his reading voice too. This is a book that I have now listened to several times and I will keep it on my ipod for a long time hence as well. Thoroughly delightful.

The Most Sensible "Diet" Book Ever

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-16-09

I thought this was a great book and am now listening to it for a second time. I have a read a great many "diet" books and food health books and I like the thoughtful manner in which the material is presented in this extrememly wholistic view of "dieting". I put diet in quotes because it is not a traditional diet book. It is more of a philosophical book about health, nutrition and exercise and is a LIFE PLAN, not a short term help to let you lose a few pounds. It presents obstacles to weight loss and health and presents very sound principles for success. Well worth the download. (one caveat: I didn't love the reader...and he mispronounced a couple things. It happens.)

I LOVED this book!

I have been listening to Audible books for three years now, and this is definitely in my top three! The narrator brings so much to this book that I would highly recommend listening to this version rather than reading the book yourself. It is a very silly book. Perhaps one of the silliest books I've ever read. But it is a very well written silly book with a great heart. Helprin's Freddy and Fredericka reminds me of the Thorne Smith books I loved in my college days. Listening to this book was a terrific, highly entertaining endeavor.
