Interesting but Drags

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 02-15-08

This is a great story, and it really helps to understand the Israeli-Palestenian conflict. Unfortunately, in his effort to tell all sides of the story, the author gets long-winded and the novel drages for several hours. Instead of increasing suspense, I felt increasing exasperation and couldn't wait for the ending. It's too bad because it's a great expose of the middle east situation. The narrator does a good job.

Too Slow

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 07-17-07

I really enjoyed the first book in the series except that the pace dragged a bit at various moments. This book took the sluggishness to a whole new level. There was barely any action or real intrigue. There were hours and hours of waiting around with little of real interest. I just wanted it to be over. The primary confrontation of this book - the moment you wait and wait and wait for - is VERY anticlimactic.

Unpleasant Narrative Voice

Total
1 out of 5 stars

I really like Ann Patchet, but I couldn't complete this book because I couldn't tolerate the narrator's voice. It made the characters seem whiny and self-indulgent.
