Historia
Hugh Breedlove is far from the most agreeable client private investigator Frank Malloy has ever had, but his case is impossible to refuse: his young niece, Julia, has been wrongfully committed to an insane asylum by her cruel and unfaithful husband, Chet Longly. Though Breedlove and his wife seem more interested in protecting the family reputation than their niece’s safety, Frank and Sarah agree to help for the sake of Julia and the young son she left behind. Frank and Sarah’s investigation reveals a dark secret.

Delightful

The narrator really brought this book to life. The story of the not-yet-understood psychological disease kept me interested in how it was handled. And it was handled beautifully!

Captivating story relevant to our times.
I enjoyed it but felt the conclusion was a bit “too pat.”

Historia
Why exactly Charley Bordelon's late father left her eight hundred sprawling acres of sugarcane land in rural Louisiana is as mysterious as it was generous. Recognizing this as a chance to start over, Charley and her 11-year-old daughter, Micah, say good-bye to Los Angeles. They arrive just in time for growing season but no amount of planning can prepare Charley for a Louisiana that's mired in the past: as her judgmental but big-hearted grandmother tells her, cane farming is always going to be a white man's business.

Gripping
Revisado: 06-10-19
The way the author wove the layers of this story made it a thoroughly enjoyable tale. I was hooked within the first chapter! My one annoyance (and this happens frequently) comes from when an author plays loose and easy with geography. The various locations where action takes place are several hundred miles apart rather than being the easy driving distance in which they are portrayed. But that is my only "complaint." Overall, it is a gripping and interesting, well-written story.
