Historia
Studying zoology made Lucy Cooke feel like a sad freak. Not because she loved spiders or would root around in animal feces: All her friends shared the same curious kinks. The problem was her sex. Being female meant she was, by nature, a loser. Since Charles Darwin, evolutionary biologists have been convinced that the males of the animal kingdom are the interesting ones—dominating and promiscuous, while females are dull, passive, and devoted. But Cooke tells a new story.

Paradigm shifting
Revisado: 01-12-25
If I could ask every scientist and science teacher in the U.S. to read one book, this would be it. Caveat: I am not a biologist, nor am I a scientist.
As a lay person, I learned so much about animals and what it means to be female, male, or intersex. The deletion of data and information that doesn’t fit the cultural narrative from textbooks in the traditional European male centric science world is not unsurprising. What is surprising is the persistent resistance to new information.
The narration by the author is fabulous and I found myself re-listening to captures over and over again. Pick this book up. You won’t regret it.

Historia
The only thing predictable about menopause is its unpredictability. Factor in widespread misinformation, a lack of research, and the culture of shame around women's bodies, and it's no wonder women are unsure what to expect during the menopause transition and beyond. Menopause is not a disease - it's a planned change, like puberty. And just like puberty, we should be educated on what's to come years in advance, rather than the current practice of leaving people on their own with bothersome symptoms and too much conflicting information.

True to its name
Revisado: 05-29-24
I can understand some of the criticisms of this book. It has a manifesto. It is true to its name. The title is also a playoff on the feminist manifesto, so just know what you’re getting into. If you are at the end of your rope, and you feel like menopause is just one more thing to deal with. I highly recommend living listening to this book. When you are done, don’t forget to share with all your friends.

I feel like I should like this more than I do

**spoilers**
These stories are not unique nor interesting. I've heard them through friends and through my own existence. Is this revolutionary because so many people are sexually repressed in our society? Or is it because powerful men get away with rape and the book gives voice to the girl whose life is upturned because of it?
