Historia
After years of living as London’s brightest scandal, Lady Sesily Talbot has embraced the reputation and the freedom that comes with the title. No one looks twice when she lures a gentleman into the dark gardens beyond a Mayfair ballroom...and no one realizes those trysts are not what they seem. No one, that is, but Caleb Calhoun, who has spent years trying not to notice his best friend’s beautiful, brash, brilliant sister.

Lots of Steam, Lots of Dirty Talk
Revisado: 07-05-23
I love a bodice ripper and Mary Jane Wells. It’s the perfect combination. This book was a surprise because the steamy scenes are definitely grittier… lots of you want me, you like that, yada yada. Still good story and will get the next one, but this is not the series if you’re looking for the man to be a gentle lover…

Narrator swap!!!
Revisado: 07-05-23
I immediately purchased this book because I loved the first in the series which was narrated my MJW (who is always a favorite). I was disappointed in this narrator… everyone sounded at least 50 and a tad frail which is so opposite of the strong heroine. Really loved the story. Meh on the narration.

When Ashley Miller sees a Craigslist ad for an all-expense paid vacation to Scotland with a handsome Highland "escort", she's all over it. Worn out from working two jobs to pay off the debts her scam artist ex-husband left her with, she just needs a friggin' break already. But one minute she's sipping a latte and the next she's zapped to the 2nd century and promptly informed she's managed to wed her handsome Highlander without even an "I do." Oh, hell no.

Narrator… oof.
Revisado: 06-18-23
I have listened to all of the books by this author. I don’t always love the heroines, but this one I did! However, the narrator’s accents are SO bad. The highlander sounds German and the heroine sounds like a cowboy. It ruins the audiobook. I will however finish reading (not listening to) the book to see how this plot plays out.

Like many romance novels, there’s a pattern. We know what will happen. But, this was a cute story and the narrator performed well. I didn’t love the duke’s voice at first, but it grew on me. The description that this is Pretty Woman meets Bridgerton is spot on.

Narrator Switch!
Revisado: 03-26-23
I get it. Sometimes series switch narrators… but this swap makes all the characters seem at least 50. The Victorian Elderly saving the poor and unfortunate of London.
This one was a bigger leap connecting the penny dreadful stories to the main character stories. Maybe I wasn’t as “into” this one, but I’m not reeeeally sure how Barnabus’s book tied in. This was my least favorite in the series so far.

Six years ago, Miss Letitia Fenley made a mistake, and she’s lived with the consequences ever since. Readying herself to compete for the prestigious Rosewood Prize for Mathematics, she is suddenly asked to take on another responsibility - managing Athena’s Retreat, a secret haven for England’s women scientists. Having spent the last six years on her own, Letty doesn’t want the offers of friendship from other club members and certainly doesn’t need any help from the insufferably attractive Lord Greycliff.

Endearing ❤️
Revisado: 03-11-23
I am truly enjoying this series. The books are predictable in their love story, but the historical backgrounds are wonderful. I adore historical fiction books with a root in actual history. The plot is fun and the fella’s epiphany very sweet. This series ticks all the boxes for me: funny, sweet, spicy, and clever.
My only criticism was Letti’s voice. It’s “fine,” but not my favorite. Violet and Arthur in the first book were perfect. It’s hard to love a heroine with a non-lovable voice. But, this is fully a personal preference.

Quirky
Revisado: 07-16-21
I downloaded this book for a road trip and it wasn’t quite the murder mystery I was hoping for. The pace is slower, BUT if you typically read historical fiction there is a lot of funny tidbits layered in this book. Both my husband and I laughed out loud multiple times. It would be perfect as a chill weekend or commuting listen.

Great Non-Romance Chick-Lit
Revisado: 08-30-15
Loved that this book was not about romance! Still fun and full of energy without following the same old story line. Some of the character's voices are a tad nails-on-a-chalkboard but overall, I really loved this story.

Really liked the book. Having listened to Outlander the books on audio, it was a little strange to have Davina Porter as the narrator. Her voice for Captain Randall in Outlander is the same as the love interest in this book which took some getting used to. Overall, fun listen.
