Religious fantasy book, not historical fiction
Revisado: 01-16-24
This book is so bad that I could write a book about all the things that were wrong about it—starting with very naive characters, not much explanation, and narration with a young German girl who spoke perfect American midwesterner but mispronounced German words. I have narrator two stars as the did a very good job as Americans and I'm sure it was not their fault to narrate foreigners as perfect English.
Since the book had many good reviews, I kept listening hoping it would get better as I am a big fan of WWII books since my own family suffered in Europe during this war. I got to about five hours in and it was getting worse instead of better. Thank goodness this was a free title or I would be demanding a refund. I wish I gould get compensation for give hours of frustration listening. Someone must have gone to a megachurch and asked that all Audilbe members give a good review without listening to the book.

My favorite author but the narrator ruins it.
Revisado: 12-05-23
I'm so happy that when I first found Joy Ellis it was one of her other series with Richard Armitage as the narrator. I would never have continued with her books if it were with either of the narrators of this series. The first one wasn't great but this one was horrible. His voices are like being on a roller coaster, fast one second, really slow the next, loud one second, and whispering the next. This is even within one sentence. Due to a condition with my eyes, I'm unable to read books for more than 15 minutes at a time so I'm confined to audiobooks. I wanted to listen to this series so I finally had to give in and have Alexa read the Kindle version. Alexa doesn't change voices and gets the inflection wrong, but at least it was much more tolerable. This narrator would be great for fantasy or Charles Dickens books, NOT Joy Ellis books.

Sorry, I couldn't finish it.
Revisado: 11-21-23
The idea of this book was good but come on, 12 hours on a book that could easily been cut in half. The author goes on and on beating the same things over and over again. I startled my own dogs a few times screaming at the book and telling him to get on with it. I wanted to finish but unfortunately, I had to stop after 3 1/2 hours.

Same formula as the book as so drawn out
Revisado: 08-30-23
Does this author have no imagination? Same as the last book. Advances in medicine are going wrong, orgies, and the main character escapes death repeatedly. Everyone knows somebody who takes forever to relay a story, this author is this guy. The book was 13 hours long and could have easily been told in 8 hours. I would have given the story a rating of two but I'm giving it a one because I felt so tortured through the last three hours. I would have stopped it but kept hoping it would move a bit or get better. I've only listened to a couple of other books that were worse.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Fun lighthearted story
Revisado: 08-26-23
If you need to listen to something light and funny, this is a good choice. I listen to a lot of deep historical and crime fiction so once in a while something light and fun is what I need. Fun listen.

Murder mystery for uninteligent people
Revisado: 08-24-23
In the first few chapters, I thought the bad reviews were from picky people. I had to quit by chapter eight. It's incredibly frustrating, stupid, and unrealistic! The author must really have a poor opinion of a woman's intelligence.

Way to did dragged out
Revisado: 08-03-23
Story was good but it so dragged out. So many details got hashed out over and over again. I found myself either thinking "Yeah, yeah, I got it already, get on with it." OR I'd catch myself daydreaming while waiting for the story to get on to the next part. I've listened to three books in this series since it was included in my audible membership, but I don't think I can handle another one.

Historia
Laurie Notaro has proved everyone wrong: she didn’t end up in rehab, prison, or cremated at a tender age. She just went gray. At past fifty, every hair’s root is a symbol of knowledge (she knows how to use a landline), experience (she rode in a car with no seat belts), and superpowers (a gray-haired lady can get away with anything). Though navigating midlife is initially upsetting—the cracking noises coming from her new old body, receiving regular junk mail from mortuaries—Laurie accepts it. And then some.

Not for me
Revisado: 02-26-23
I'm in sixties and have let my hair out gray, but sorry, this book was not for me. Whinny and superficial are my only words to describe the main character. I found it amusing for the first fifteen minutes or so but once I learned the whole book was a continuation of the same, I sit at 39 minutes and couldn't continue. Thank goodness I didn't pay for this.
