Historia
Millions of people visit xkcd.com each week to read Randall Munroe's iconic webcomic. His stick-figure drawings about science, technology, language, and love have a large and passionate following. Fans of xkcd ask Munroe a lot of strange questions. What if you tried to hit a baseball pitched at 90 percent of the speed of light? How fast can you hit a speed bump while driving and live? If there were a robot apocalypse, how long would humanity last?

I enjoy nonfiction but sometimes bog down in dry books that feel like drinking sand. This book is a collection of scientific analysis of random questions and it's hilarious. Yes many of these are republished from the website but a) this works much better in the car than reading on my iphone and b) the narrator is great!
Here's an excerpt:
A 1-watt laser is an extremely dangerous thing. It’s not just powerful enough to blind you—it’s capable of burning skin and setting things on fire. Obviously, they’re not legal for consumer purchase in the US.
Just kidding! You can pick one up for $300.

What did you like best about this story?
Usually Clancy is very technical. This ok is much more person and character focused make it more appealing to the masses. If you like an action/suspense novel then this is a classic. Won't melt your brain, but will keep you entertained.

Great performance of a great book.
Revisado: 06-13-12
Who was your favorite character and why?
Milo minderbinder was the best character. As an absorb businessman he is the perfect commentary on the paradoxes we deal with in D.C. Every day as we create jobs to clean up the messes we make and earn a profit on both ends. This book is so classic and laugh out loud funny. I must say that the cadence of the reading takes some getting used to based on the double antandras and triple negatives and other patterns (e.g. They were good friends and there was oohing Usarian would door him). However, like a Shakepearean play ou get used to it very quicky and then the language is that much more colorful.
What does Jay O. Sanders bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Great distinctions in the characters' voices.

Interesting. Not much applicability
Revisado: 06-13-12
Where does The New Psycho-Cybernetics rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Im a big fan of cognitive science having studied it at length in my academic career, but I found Moonwalking With Einstein and Made To Stick more interesting mostly because they approach applicability to skills in the real world. I found this book a little academic and dry
That said, this is a great work and should be read by anyone who is interested in he the brain works, I'd just ranking it lower than others.

Not the best Dan brown. Maybe the worst.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
Ok. That said its still good. A page turner (figuratively). But not as many exciting twists. Too much stretching of old ideas from his previous books. Go read digital fortress if you haven't already. More original.
Would you recommend The Lost Symbol to your friends? Why or why not?
Meh. Fun summer read. Lots of better stuff out there. Read all his other stuff before this. Then go read patriot games.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

One of my favorites in years
Revisado: 06-13-12
What did you like best about this story?
It is a true story. It follows so many different trails, but the author does a wonderful job tying the details together. A random aside in one chapter becomes a key plot element in the next. Very well written. Intensely emotional. And inspiring story of the depths and heights of the human condition.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Definitely a book that will have you glued to every page with excitement, fear, and sadness.
Any additional comments?
For both fiction and nonfiction fans I highly recommend this book. I read mostly business and Tom Clancy books. My wife reads nora roberts and we both loved this book.

It is The Campus. Secretly created under the administration of President Jack Ryan, its sole purpose is to eliminate terrorists and those who protect them. Officially, it has no connection to the American government - a necessity in a time when those in power consider themselves above such arcane ideals as loyalty, justice, and right or wrong.

What aspect of Lou Diamond Phillips’s performance would you have changed?
He did great. Very natural character identification.

In this riveting, accessible work of science, Charles Mann takes us on an enthralling journey of scientific exploration. We learn that the Indian development of modern corn was one of the most complex feats of genetic engineering ever performed. That the Great Plains are a third smaller today than they were in 1700 because the Indians who maintained them by burning died. And that the Amazon rain forest may be largely a human artifact.

In an era of ballooning corporate campaign expenditures, unleashed by the Supreme Court in Citizens United, trust in our government is at an all time low. More than ever before, Americans believe that money buys results in Congress - and that our Republic has been lost.Using examples that resonate as powerfully on the Right as on the Left, Republic, Lost not only makes clear how the economy of influence defeats the will of the people, but offers cogent strategies to correct our course....
