Historia
Jonathan Kaufman tells the remarkable history of how two rival families participated in an economic boom that opened China to the world, but remained blind to the country's deep inequality and to the political turmoil at their doorsteps. In a story stretching from Baghdad to Hong Kong to Shanghai to London, Kaufman enters the lives and minds of these ambitious men and women to forge a tale of opium smuggling, family rivalry, political intrigue, and survival.

Pronunciation
Revisado: 11-30-22
Is it too much to expect a narrator to learn how to pronounce words in a foreign language (in this case, Hebrew) before sitting down to record a book? It’s only a handful of words and takes a minute to learn hiw to pronounce them correctly.

Historia
At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

Another "Time Travel" Story
Revisado: 12-06-21
In this science-fiction book, humanity is suffering from FMS: False Memory Syndrome. People suddenly have memories they did not have before, of alternate events that happened in their lives. While investigating a suicide by one of the afflicted, detective Barry Sutton runs into neuroscientist Helena Smith, who invented a device to help people keep their memories (trying to help her dementic mother). ‘Recursion’ refers to the fact that this device is also used to erase people’s memories to enable them to “restart” from a previous point in their life. This concept of overlapping or repeating realities as a result of going back in time (in this case mentally, not literally) is not new, but Crouch nonetheless weaves an intriguing story. The ending is somewhat of an anticlimax. Bottom line: a nice pastime if you are into this kind of stuff. Nothing great.
