Incredible story.
Revisado: 02-25-25
Great story, very informative and good narration. Though something seems left out. The entire book basically praises the man as a saint without fault. Certainly an incredible historical figure, but a well rounded profile would have imparted a better understanding.

Historia
Martin Corona, a US citizen, fell into the outlaw life at 12 and worked for a crew run by the Arellano brothers, founders of the Tijuana drug cartel that dominated the Southern California drug trade and much bloody gang warfare for decades. Corona's crew would cross into the United States from their luxurious hideout in Mexico, kill whomever needed to be killed north of the border, and return home in the afternoon. Martin Corona played a key role in the downfall of the cartel when he turned state's evidence.

Legit - well told

Excellent book and not what I expected. It is a an intimate look into a person’s criminal life. Not a tough guy fantasy told with ridiculous hyperbole.

Good initial introduction to body language/ linguistics
Revisado: 11-11-24
This is a good book on the fundamentals of body language and linguistics. I was disappointed in its elementary depth. In short, if you have more than a cursory knowledge of the aforementioned subjects- keep looking, or you will be bored by this one.

Not compelling or interesting
Revisado: 02-07-24
I appreciate his story but I couldn’t make it past an hour. I couldn’t figure out if this was an ego piece or merely a proclamation to - “ let creativity flow and embrace love” needless to say it was boring and devoid of a salient point.

Very informative- detailed- advanced
Revisado: 02-07-24
This book is extremely detailed and not dumbed down; quite a relief. Most books on this subject are entry level. That said the subject at this level requires actual study, along with pen and paper.

Historia
The crack epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s is arguably the least examined crisis in American history. Beginning with the myths inspired by Reagan’s war on drugs, journalist Donovan X. Ramsey’s exacting analysis traces the path from the last triumphs of the Civil Rights Movement to the devastating realities we live with today: a racist criminal justice system, continued mass incarceration and gentrification, and increased police brutality.

A likable book by an unlikable author
Revisado: 01-05-23
I must confess that I am not a fan of NPR - this guy fits that cast. A male feminist who finds the metaphorical use of black and white to be racist. And sees the use of father as patriarchal - gross. That said, he is an amazing story teller who sprinkles some very good techniques amongst the texts.

Excellent book, very insightful
Revisado: 03-21-22
This book has the feel of an NPR expose written by a self hating white male feminist. Conversely, the subject matter, delivery and astounding journalistic work required to cover such a broad topic are both impressive and informative. I would highly recommend this book.

A Bumper Sticker Manifesto
Revisado: 10-23-19
Not a bad book but certainly redundant. The author glosses himself endlessly and name drops awkwardly in order to impart some sort of credibility drawn from his glory days. I listened to it at 2x speed to just get through it, if that tells you anything. The summation is that there are different kinds of players in basketball and some have it and some don't, champions mind etc.... The author probably is an effective motivator of celebrity athletes indeed, but I never felt the spark. Eventually it just seemed like Pinterest quotes put on indefinite shuffle.

Revisado: 06-24-19
Firstly, the content, concepts and exercises are very valuable. Unfortunately, It is presented in a format that resembles a children’s sock puppet show. The best you can do is listen once, take notes and follow up vía YouTube. I could go on but I don’t want to be overly insulting to the author.
