Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

So sad
Revisado: 11-08-24
The new narrator was not a positive change. It negatively affected my enjoyment of the story.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Historia
The town of Sarlat is staging a reenactment of its liberation from the British in the Hundred Years’ War when the play’s French hero, Brice Kerquelin, is stabbed and feared fatally wounded. Is it an unfortunate prop malfunction—or something more sinister? The stricken man happens to be number two in the French intelligence service, in line for the top job. Bruno is tasked with the safety of the victim’s daughter Claire, as well as her father's old Silicon Valley buddies, ostensibly in town for a reunion.

Not every book has to be Nobel Prize worthy to be enjoyed.
Revisado: 09-05-23
While each negative comment about this latest Bruno story certainly has validity I still enjoyed reading (listening). Martin Walker is a fine writer and Robert Ian MacKenzie a favorite narrator. I’ll keep enjoying the books in this series as long as they keep coming.

Thank you, Jojo
Revisado: 04-13-23
I’m usually disappointed in ‘fluffy’ books even though I often need a break from ‘serious’ literature. But because Jojo Moyes is such a talented writer this novel was a pleasure. Yes, as someone else said, it’s not Pulitzer worthy but it’s a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Utterly depressing
Revisado: 12-21-22
Not what I needed to hear at an already depressing time in the world. And the narrator’s monotone didn’t help. I listened to it all but could have predicted the ending after the first half hour. Skip this book if you’re feeling low already.

Revisado: 11-10-22
I loved Leslie Manville’s narration of the 1st two books as much as anyone but Fiona Shaw did a marvelous job and ½ hour in the story took over and thoughts of Leslie were gone. Don’t miss this one. You’ll be sorry if you do.

All the negativity regarding the chat room conversations are understandable. Listeners who are still communicating by landline phones surely can’t follow the text and dialogue. If you are living and communicating 21st century style you’ll have no trouble.

Historia
Les Troubadours go viral with their new number, “Song for Catalonia,” when the Spanish government suddenly bans it. The songwriter, Joel Martin, is a local enthusiast for the old Occitan language of Périgord and the medieval troubadours, and he sympathizes with the Catalan bid for independence. The success of his song provokes outrage among extreme Spanish nationalists. Then a stolen car on a Périgord back road collides with a deer. The driver and passengers disappear but leave behind a distinctive bullet for a state-of-the art sniper's rifle that can kill at two kilometers.

Revisado: 05-08-22
Dervla McTiernan’s previous books were so well written I expected much more from this short story but it didn’t come close to her usual. Contrived and predictable with not even a surprise ending to save it. Thank goodness it was free.

In my opinion the weakest of the series so far. The plot events were contrived which resulted in predictable outcomes. I’ll keep reading the series in hopes this was a temporary lapse.
