I wasn't too hooked on this book listening through it until around the halfway point. When the spiders had evolved into a form of higher intelligence and humanity's desperation was reaching a climax, that's when things become more interesting. I wonder if the resolution between the two species in this story is a reflection of the obstacles our own species faces on this planet as enemies of ourselves. Makes me wish I could see 1000 years into our future to see where we end up.

I'm not sure I get the purpose of the story. The initial direction was to find these missing gods, but then seems to veer off into a missing persons case, which then so happens to intersect with the missing gods which then leads to...what exactly? These "gods" seem to have the ability to bend situations as they like but there's no real depth into how they do it, or powers they possess or anything about them at all except what we're given. It feels like there is some underlying concept about the world of the "lost gods" and how it's separate from the human world but it's not fleshed out in a satisfying way. So it's a "meh" for me. Nothing as significant as "Ishmael".

There is A LOT of middle in this story that I felt could've been trimmed down and not hurt the narrative. As some reviews noted, you can pretty much skip half of the middle of the book and once it gets to Callie's early teens and her progression to Cal. That for me was the story I came for though maybe people interested in small Greek towns and World War history may enjoy the middle back story

So many layered characters, it's astounding how something this well written is the product of one mind. I wasnt thrilled about a new Red Rising trilogy as story quality tends to diminish but this has not been the case for Pierce Brown. He's still got so much story to tell

I wish something like this was taught in school early on the way we teach kids math, science, and social studies. Language and how we speak to one another is such a vital thing and most of us never learn how to do it in a way that is compassionate and expressive for all involved

I imagine this was originally a short story that Bradbury adapted to novel length. I think it would have been better served as the former. Nearly every sentence is stretched and littered with the most unnecessarily ornate jumble of simile and metaphor to the point you don't remember what's happening. Bradbury twists and contorts words to fit new context in a way that I found very frustrating to endure page after page after page as a rainstorm that danced the thunderous echos of an albino tiger sliding through the mind laced through the shadows of the moon. See?? You see how annoying that was to read? What does that even mean?? THAT'S THE WHOLE DAMN BOOK!

The voice actor reading it is excellent though, if that means anything.

...is what I took from this story. it's nothing complicated or surprising. if you've got romantic ideals of unconditional love and that it conquers all, you're probably not gonna enjoy this book.

Might not be the most exciting of stories but the ideas and concepts presented in the Bobiverse series are interesting in themselves. It's so technically detailed, the author really makes it feel like all of this is possible. Voice acting is also good at distinguishing the Bob's and other characters accents.

Surprised I'd gone through life this long without actually reading the original Tarzan. It's so much more intense and violent than the Disney cartoon. and sure, racist. but whatever. I'm impressed with the level of depth the characters had and how thoughtful the concepts of attraction (Jane and Tarzan) was explored. Great story overall, though I may not continue on to the next book

It's rare to find a book this unique, where the main characters are... each other. in one sense, there's so much character development between the different Bobs, it's almost like the rest of humanity stays stagnant in comparison. Though this book isn't "exciting" in the typical sense, I was constantly engaged and interested. Might be something I'd recommend to science geeks more than anything
