Historia
In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Historia
Mitza Maric has always been a little different from other girls. Most 20-year-olds are wives by now, not studying physics at an elite Zurich university with only male students trying to outdo her clever calculations. But Mitza is smart enough to know that, for her, math is an easier path than marriage. And then fellow student Albert Einstein takes an interest in her, and the world turns sideways. Theirs becomes a partnership of the mind and of the heart, but there might not be room for more than one genius in a marriage.

Great story
Revisado: 11-15-23
Knowing that much of this is fiction, I can see that the portrayal of A Einstein may have not been accurate in his treatment of his wife. However it is logical that given the time period much of this could be real. I appreciate the story and it definitely makes you think about woman’s rights.

Historia
As a boy, James Rebanks's grandfather taught him to work the land the old way. Their family farm in England's Lake District hills was part of an ancient agricultural landscape: a patchwork of crops and meadows, of pastures grazed with livestock, and hedgerows teeming with wildlife. And yet, by the time James inherited the farm, it was barely recognizable. The men and women had vanished from the fields; the old stone barns had crumbled; the skies had emptied of birds and their wind-blown song.

Beautiful book
Revisado: 01-29-22
I feel like I have experienced what he wrote about. Since I grew up during that time period of the DDT, the heavy plowing of fields and mowing down the trees etc., I have seen all of natures beauty slowly die away over the last 40 years that it took to kill it off. I am hoping that lots of farmers will go back to the old way of farming. Hopefully, we can restore the old wilderness by rewilding the fields again.

Historia
Featuring a delightful cast of characters and timeless Buddhist wisdom, and with His Holiness' compassion pervading every chapter, The Dalai Lama's Cat is simply enchanting. Not so much fly-on-the-wall as cat-on-the-sill, this is the warmhearted tale of a small kitten rescued from the slums of New Delhi who finds herself in a beautiful sanctuary with sweeping views of the snowcapped Himalayas.

I enjoyed the topic and his approach and methods of research, ie giving up the coffee habit so he would have a reference. I like his idea of using coffee as a tool to get more done. Still, I LOVE my daily cup!

Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Good listen
Revisado: 12-31-19
This was my first experience with David Sedaris. I really enjoyed the book and listening to him present it was such a plus. What a funny guy! Thoroughly liked it and laughed out loud frequently. There are definitely some dark places and subjects in the book. They are about real life and relatable subjects. Maybe that is why some reviewers gave it a negative review. They don’t like hearing someone talk about it. I will look be sure to purchase another one of Mr Sedaris’’s books in the future.
