Suspenseful story, great narrator!
Revisado: 07-16-23
The main protagonist, Cassie Newell, is well written, realistic, very likable, and believable. I love CJ Box’s ability to write realistic dialogue that feels honest and natural, and this book is an excellent example. The storyline is also reasonably realistic with great suspense - I could hardly bring myself to turn off the story.
I really liked the narrator too. I hesitated using a credit because of the criticisms of the narrator, but I have no idea what they’re complaining about! This narrator is excellent, and I would absolutely buy more audiobooks that she narrates! 5 stars for her, too!

My favorite Joe Pickett yet
Revisado: 06-20-23
Timely and insightful, this Joe Pickett confronts dark and dangerous realities of the post-pandemic Wyoming and beyond. Multiple plot lines intertwine with familiar and new characters, navigating the peculiarities of our current social and political landscape with a sharp and unvarnished eye that only CJ Box can deliver. I’ve read almost all of his Joe Pickett books, and this one just became my favorite.

Historia
Private detective Peter O’Keefe, a physically scarred and emotionally battered Vietnam vet, is hired by childhood friend and attorney Mike Harrigan to investigate what appears to be a petty mink farm Ponzi scheme in the Ozarks. But quickly O’Keefe finds himself snared in a vicious web of money laundering, cocaine smuggling, and murder—all at the behest of a mysterious mobster only referred to as Mr. Canada. Also caught up in Mr. Canada’s illicit network is the exquisite Tag Parker, who seems to dance between roles as the woman of O’Keefe’s dreams—and his nightmares.

Gross. DNF.
Revisado: 07-07-22
I rarely write reviews, and generally love Crime Thriller books. Not this one. This was way too much toxic masculinity, even for me, a lover of the crime thriller genre. Half way through before I couldn't take it any more. This book was clearly written for the fat old guys telling gross jokes in the locker room. It's a small audience, but Flanigan hit that target audience like a bullseye with Mink Eyes.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

One of the best books in last 5 years
Revisado: 08-01-21
Not sure why audible shows so many negative reviews on the first page, especially since it won Best Book of the Decade, but I really enjoyed this one! I’m not a big Stephen King fan, but read this based on several referrals and so glad I did! The dialogue and detail is excellent, and the story kept me guessing for the whole 30 hours! I couldn’t wait to get back to it every time I set it down!

Tedium on steroids
Revisado: 08-17-20
I have listened to many books in this genre, including the English/Irish setting/characters. This particular story was impossible for me to get through. The characters were tedious, whiny, illogical or irrationally mean -- and those were the protagonists! The villains were shallow, poorly explained, and colorless. I kept trying to talk myself into listening longer in the hopes it would get better, but it actually got worse. I'm now at about 3 1/2 hours left and I just want tell them all to shut up. The plot line is one we've all seen and heard several times before, no interesting surprises, no provocative plot twists, just more tedium. I went to turn it back on this evening, and I just can't bear any more. Life is too short to listen to this.

So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

Weird Similarities to “The Book Woman...”
Revisado: 11-21-19
After reading both “The Giver of Stars” and “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek,” (the latter of which was written first by Kim Michele Richardson) I am disappointed and troubled by the numerous remarkable similarities between these two books. “Giver” is also an oddly stark diversion in subject matter and setting for Jojo Moyes, and I have read and enjoyed all of Moyes’ previous books. I don’t know what the explanation for this might be, but I found it disturbing and unfortunate.

The teenagers kept what happened a secret, believing that getting caught would be the worst thing that could happen. But time has taught Allie that not getting caught was far worse.

Least Favorite Lisa Scottoline
Revisado: 08-08-19
I usually enjoy Lisa Scottoline's work and find her characters relatable and interesting, as well as her plot lines. In "Someone Knows," about half of the book is from the point of view of numerous 15-year-old characters. This not only gives the book the feel of a YA novel, but those characters are seriously unlikable -- all of them. Worse, when they grow up, they are even less likable adults. I kept hoping for some redeeming story twist, but that never comes. Surprising only in its predictability, and too tidy, with boring characters who never redeem themselves. Although I did enjoy the narrators and would definitely listen to either of them again, save your credit for a better story.

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

CRINGE - why did I keep giving it a chance?!
Revisado: 09-23-18
I wanted to like this book - had heard good things about it, was on my wish list for quite a while, and I downloaded it during a break between the end of another series I liked. I rarely write negative reviews, but because of the positive reviews that are shown so prominently on the first page of this book's page, I had to add my two cents. The two primary characters are just insipid, shallow, and boring. Even though the male antagonist is a complete a****le, you still end up wondering how he could possibly be attracted to two such mind-numbingly idiotic women. The dialogue is utterly bereft of intrigue or even mildly piquant use of conversational language. I should have called it far sooner and given up, but because I was inconveniently away from my computer and wifi, I hoped there was some awesome twist just ahead that would grab me and make it interesting. Alas, the "twist" is pedantic and so terribly foreseeable you will be telling yourself that THAT couldn't possibly be "the twist." If I hadn't succumbed to this state of convenient denial too late, I would have stopped myself halfway through this tedium. Pick another book on your list.
