Historia
An unambitious twenty-two-year-old, Darren lives in a Bed-Stuy brownstone with his mother, who wants nothing more than to see him live up to his potential as the valedictorian of Bronx Science. But Darren is content working at Starbucks in the lobby of a Midtown office building, hanging out with his girlfriend, Soraya, and eating his mother's home-cooked meals. All that changes when a chance encounter with Rhett Daniels, the silver-tongued CEO of Sumwun, NYC's hottest tech startup, results in an exclusive invitation for Darren to join an elite sales team on the thirty-sixth floor.

*sigh* Every book is not for everyone. And this one wasn’t for me.
Revisado: 02-25-22
This was just wild and frustrating; wildly frustrating and frustratingly wild. The parts I liked/were interested in most were the shortest, and I didn’t care for the ending. (I was kind of hoping that this was all a crazy dream. I would’ve been angry if it had, though.) On the whole, this book reminded me of The Other Black Girl, so if you liked that, you might enjoy this, and vice versa.

Historia
Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year's birthday is unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she's never met. Their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year's Day, but Quinn was given the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990 - and the name Minnie was meant to have, as well. With luck like that, it's no wonder each of her birthdays has been more of a disaster than the one before.

I love all the near misses and alternate perspectives! I only wish their relationship would’ve blossomed a little more. And a little sooner. Would love to see this be a movie.

Historia
Maya loves to cook with her grandmother - her Halmunee - to connect with the rich family history associated with each dish, a history Maya's mom would prefer stayed in the past. While cooking with Halmunee, something remarkable happens - the food creates such a strong memory that Maya and Halmunee are transported back in time through the memory itself. Halmunee explains that the women in her family have the gift of time travel through food and Maya can do it too, if she practices.

Ending made it worth it!
Revisado: 12-27-20
4.5 stars!
Started off a little slow but picked up. I was confused at one point in time (pun intended) and a bit angry as well. But the end! Omg!! So good, and worth it! I REALLY would love a sequel where they work on “finding all those lost in time” and, you know, maybe a little romance to go along with that fate.

Snorkeling, sightseeing, zip lining, and leisurely dinners by the sea are just what the doctor ordered to mend her broken heart. That is, until she meets a hunky adventure tour guide who makes her want to break all her own rules. Handsome, funny, and exciting, Caleb is by far the hottest local attraction. Will a romantic island fling lead to more heartbreak - or a new beginning?

Cute, But Could’ve Been Better
Revisado: 09-30-20
I enjoyed the premise of the book but I would’ve preferred it to just be an actual narrated story, particularly with a shift in narrators & perspective. And personally, I could’ve done without the background noise — as someone else mentioned, listening to this was like having the tv on in the background.

Doing the Most
Revisado: 08-03-20
I couldn't really get into this book. The story was decent but there was just too much happening for me. And the narrators were ridiculously dramatic.

Crazy story, great narrator!
Revisado: 07-13-20
Started out slow, exploded, then slowed back down.
Overall this story was crazy with quite a few surprises toward the end. I enjoyed it well enough and I could see this being a movie. Not sure why it's titled as such, though.

Basically "Sliding Doors" ...

Basically "Sliding Doors" but it was a really good book that gently toyed with fate vs. choice.

What’s in a name? A lot. The name Tinaca, for example, has been passed down in the Jones family for generations of women. In fact, the Joneses name a Tinaca every other generation, to let the name breathe a little. To let each Tinaca shine. And shine is exactly what Tinaca Jones intends to do.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-08-20
The story had so much potential IMO but it was executed terribly -- way too many cliches and metaphors in an attempt at ghetto-fabulousness. Retta performed this well, but it was not enjoyable.
