Historia
Join in meditations developed at one of the world's great meditation centers and gain ideal support for a daily mindfulness practice. Here are 4 authentic meditations from Plum Village, the celebrated Zen sanctuary and peace center founded by Thich Nhat Hanh in southern France. Hanh is a meditation master who Thomas Merton has described as "the Zen monk who sees beyond life and death." These inspiring guided meditations teach conscious breathing for calming the mind and cultivating joy, body appreciation and attunement practice, and how to transform your anger into seeds of kindness.

not for beginners
Revisado: 01-06-06
This book consists of two meditations from Plum Village, Thich Nhat Hanh's centre in France. The first has an introduction from TNH and then consists mainly of a bell ringing to help keep you mindful. The second is led by Sister Jina and consists of three meditations to help with developing mindfulness and compassion. If that is what you are looking for then they are great.
If, hoever, you are a beginner and would like an introduction to TNH, then can I recommend 'The Art of Mindful Living' (also available on audible) instead, as that is a better introduction to TNH.

Audible have divided LOTR into six separate audiobooks. They aren't really separate books, but sections of the same book, so you need to read them in order, they won't make sense otherwise. This is the third book. (Start with "Fellowship of the Ring book 1")
Rob Inglis has a very traditional english voice and reads in a very measured way. I am a fan of Tolkien, and enjoy this reading, but if you have only seen the films, you may find it a bit slow.

Aragon, revealed as the hidden heir of the ancient Kings of the West, joined with the Riders of Rohan against the forces of Isengard, and took part in the desperate victory of the Hornburg. Merry and Pippin, captured by orcs, escaped into Fangorn Forest and there encountered the Ents. And all the time the armies of the Dark Lord are massing.

Inglis sounds like Tolkien!
Revisado: 10-18-05
As far as I know, this is the only unabridged reading of LOTR, so if you want unabridged this is the one to go for! (if you want abridged, try the BBC full cast dramatisation).
Rob Inglis has a very traditional english voice - similar to Tolkien's own. He reads in a very measured way. Not only does he read the entire book (apart from the appendices), he also sings all of the songs. I think that he suits the reading, but I find sometimes he doesn't differentiate the characters enough, and the pace is not fast. I also find that he makes the hobbits a bit too "yokel" (rural english accent) for me.
That said, I enjoyed this audiobook and would recommend it. The only thing to be aware of is that Audible have divided it into six separate audiobooks, so to listen to the whole of LOTR, you are going to have to buy them all.

I love it but do you have to be British?
Revisado: 10-18-05
This is a collection from the BBC radio show. It features the actors doing comedy sketches where they impersonate the voices of famous people. It love it. Both the impersonations and the comedy are of a very high standard. Like "The News Quiz" it's appointment listening for me.
My only concern would be how well it travels across the atlantic. Quite a few of the characters are well known in the UK, but maybe not to a wider audience ("The Archers" for example, or Brian Sewell, or Tom Baker's Dr Who or Greg Dyke).
You could see if it is currently being broadcast on the BBC website, which will give you an idea of how good it is, and hopefully encourage you to get this.

Historia
A fourth volume of highlights from recent series of The News Quiz, presented by chairman Simon Hoggart. Since 1977, BBC Radio 4's funniest and quirkiest game show has been answering questions and offering wit and wisdom on global happenings, national news and quite frankly pathetic parochial events.

I love it but do you have to be British?
Revisado: 10-18-05
I love The News Quiz, it's appointment listening for me. It's not just the witty take on the week's news but also the way the contestants play off against each other.
However, I have to issue a warning - this is a British topical radio programme, so by the time you listen to it, it will have lost some of its topicality! If you are not a Brit, you may find some of the subject matter obscure.
We Brits are not very kind to those in authority, so if you think that George Bush walks on water, you may be offended (but if you don't, you may be delighted!)
If you want to "try before you buy", you could see if TNQ is running on the BBC website (it isn't always on), and use their "listen again" feature. That will give you a taster, for which this book is feast.
