A strange phenomenon occurs out of nowhere: an omnipresent light that engulfs the entire planet. Humanity is forever changed by the light. NOAA and NASA are mystified. People soon face a new threat; even the smallest, most insignificant injury will no longer heal. Doctors cannot stop it. The sick do not die. They change. They are Scabs.

A camera, tainted with ancient, evil blood, is purchased by Detective Jack Hunger, who just wants to document his career as a crime scene photographer. He sets up his own darkroom at home, but when he develops the photograph of his first murder victim, something bizarre happens.

Getting to Etna Station is all that matters. With the world rapidly collapsing around them, Mike and company make a desperate trek to reach what they believe to be a safe haven. Can they outrun the demons that chase them? Will they succumb to Knox and his tyrannical army or Payne, a revenge-bent vampire? New friends will be made along the way while some old ones will fall. If they make it, will it be all they hoped or just another nightmare?
