FAN OF THE NORMAL GENRE
Revisado: 04-24-25
I fell in love with Molly Harper’s writing after reading AND ONE MORE THING. I must have listened to this 40 times over the years. I bought & listened to several of the paranormal series, but it’s just not my genre.
It was such a great surprise when I checked on her latest book to find it was another great story with a quirky & clever character who was brought to life by Amanda Ronconi. Much enjoyment was had listening to this new book. Thank you!
As an eighty year old person with vision problems audible books offer hours of pleasure, especially if you have Molly Harper’s sense of humor to keep you smiling!

Nora Roberts Fan for 30 years!
Revisado: 08-15-24
The Witness is probably my favorite noval by Nora Roberts. I enjoy the characters & the story line. I re listen to this story at least once a year, along with The Collector, Shelter in Place. Undercurrents, & The Inn Boonsborough Trilogy. Roberts tells an enjoyable story with interesting characters & some suspense or mystery. It is interesting that there was some recent controversy, ie books being banned from libraries. While I am not a fan of violence nor of explicit sexual description, I find at 80 years old I can fast forward if some descriptions don’t interest me. I find the value of Roberts writing is in the storytelling, family feelings & unusual characterization. I do find it a pity that books could be banned, especially as Nora Roberts is a master story teller who has entertained me for more than 30 years, first in print & now only with audible editions, due to failing eyesight. I own most of the audible novels by Nora Roberts & continue to try out her newest stories. Thank you Nora Roberts & audible.

A PLEASANT SURPRISE
Revisado: 06-01-23
This novel was very interesting. The characters, especially 'Gus', were very well portrayed. The subject matter was a bit harrowing if you are a breast cancer patient, as I was, but still very interesting to read about this illness during that time period. The mysteries or events seemed plausible. However it is difficult to believe the actions of women of this class at the time. There were positive results to many of the twins investigations. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Historia
Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....

Worth several listens!
Revisado: 09-18-20
I did laugh out loud many times the first time I read this. Then I forgot about it for a couple of years. Suddenly I found myself wanting a book to listen to which would make me laugh and Molly Harper's And One Last Thing came back to me. Since then I have read it several times, laughing out loud at most of the same lines each time. I love the main character!
There are very few books which I re-read. Mostly I listen to Georgette Heyer's Regency books, The Reluctant Widow, Frederica, The Black Sheep, A Woman of Quality, once a year as they have witty dialogue. And there are several of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe books which I listen to yearly, also. Caroline Brown's The Ladies Room is also on my listen to yearly list, due to the main character's growth & development, and the clever story.
When I consider the why of listening to these books many times over, it becomes clear that dialogue & interesting story telling are the main reasons, with a dash of humour in them all. There are many great story tellers on audible, but sometimes a narrator causes a distraction from the story, or there is just too much graphic sex. Kristen Ashley writes great stories. But the graphic sex tends to distract from the enjoyment of the character development and the good story telling. I especially liked Ashley's The Burg series, the Rock Chick series, the Colorado Mountain series, the Moonlight & Motor oil series and a few stand alone books like Heaven & Hell, and Soaring. However, I do wish for an auto forward to be available to skip the sex scenes!
Having been an Audible customer for ten years I can admit that the majority of books are hardly worth the first listen. However, there are many worth a second listen. And there are the rare treasures which can be listened to yearly. I appreciate that Audible makes an effort to record older book series for those of us who like to revisit old friends!

It's Carnival week in Cherringham, but while most of the locals are looking forward to the regatta, the parade and the fireworks, Jack and Sarah are more interested in the mysterious body that's been uncovered at the archaeological dig just outside the village ... No Roman soldier - but a young man, no ID. Definitely the victim of a cold blooded murder ... from just a few decades ago. It's a baffling cold case - but one that soon heats up when a member of the carnival committee suddenly goes missing. Jack and Sarah investigate - and quickly come up against a wall of silence.

Very pleasant listen!
Revisado: 09-16-19
I've read them all now. The first 24 were short and easy listens. Then the 2 longer stories were equally enjoyable. The main characters are nice people, not too complicated, but worth getting to know. The mysteries themselves run from mildly difficult to figure out to a bit more involved clues to follow. If you like small country villages in England and a few quirky characters, plus some mystery then this series is for you. Listening to these reminds me of listening to radio mysteries when I lived in England as a child. I would rush home every afternoon to catch the next chapter of the current mystery being read for radio audiences. of course, then I was 10 or 11. But now I just enjoy being read to & not having publicity annoying me every 10 minutes!

An historic literary event: the publication of a newly discovered novel, the earliest known work from Harper Lee, the beloved, best-selling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

Disillusioned
Revisado: 09-11-19
If I had read this before To Kill A Mockingbird I expect I would not have considered Atticus Finch such a wonderful character. And I expect there would have been no movie with Gregory Peck. And I understand why the publishers rejected this first novel of Harper Lee. There was a great deal of sadness about this book. I don't want to ruin the discoveries of those who haven't yet read the Watchman novel, but I will just say that I am sorry the publishers decided to publish Watchman. I would have rather kept my illusions about Atticus Finch.

Production team: stop adding music to great books!
Revisado: 09-10-19
I last read this book 50 years ago. I loved it then. Now I have listened to the book and found it wonderful, except for the music added by the production team. What were they thinking? This book does not need any musical enhancement! The story is powerful and moving all on it's own. The narration was just fine and made the characters come alive without adding accents or 'voices' for each character. Thank you Sissy Spacek for just reading the story so very well without going overboard and adding character voices which would have been distracting from the story.
I wish there was a way to cut out the music for the next time I listen to this wonderful book.

For some reason this book just didn't seem as interesting, nor as captivating, as many other were and are. I can reread many of the Elvis Cole & Joe Pike titles with just as much enjoyment as the first time. The Forgotten Man however, is just not worth my time to reread.

Historia
When a group of strangers purchase land on Tortola and Norman Island to set up a commune, the locals simply write them off as an odd sort - until one of their bloated bodies washes up on the shore of a nearby resort island. As luck would have it, Jesse McDermitt is visiting a friend on Norman Island after tracking a terrorist submarine from the Windward Islands. The sub was destroyed by locals on the Dutch island of Saba, so Jesse had nothing much else to do. What he wasn’t looking for was a murderous cult at the center of a drug manufacturing and distribution ring.

I really enjoy these stories. I am not a diver, nor do I wish to be. I have always loved the ocean and often sailed when younger, but on the California coast. The different situations of the main character are very exciting and I enjoy the mystery and adventure. Considering that I am seventy-five and have no experience with guns or physical fighting, you would think I would find all that non interesting. But on the contrary! I love to listen to all the actions and preparations. It keeps me spell bound and sitting on the edge of my seat at times. Thank you for many hours of very enjoyable listening.

When Frank Meyer and his family are executed during a home invasion, the police begin investigating the secret life they're sure Meyer had. Joe Pike's on a hunt of his own: to clear his friend's name, and to punish the people who murdered him. What starts out as a simple trail gets twisted fast by old grudges, double crosses, blood vengeance, and a crime so terrible even Pike and his partner Elvis Cole have no way to measure it.

Really enjoy this series!
Revisado: 09-04-19
I have purchased most of the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series on audible. This is one of the better stories. The two main characters are wonderful in terms of their personalities and actions. I think I now prefer Luke Daniels as their voices. There have been other narrators who are good, but just don't help tell the story without making you aware of them. Listening to books can be for many reasons: a long drive to and from work each day; the ability to do the ironing while listening; or in my case to save my eyes as I am seventy-five and a diabetic.
The action is exciting in these stories. The main characters are very likeable. Yes, there is violence, but most of the time it suits the situations in the story. There is not much swearing to listen to, nor any gratuitous sex. All in all very enjoyable, entertaining and well thought out mysteries. Thank you, Robert Crais for helping me to pass some very pleasant hours of listening.
