Historia
Spring, 1909, and Lady Hardcastle, amateur sleuth and all-round eccentric, is enjoying a well-deserved rest. But a week after a trip to the cattle market, Spencer Caradine, a local farmer, turns up dead in the pub, face-down in his beef and mushroom pie. Once again, it is up to Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, to solve the case. Armed with wit and whimsy, not to mention Florence’s mean right hook, the pair set out to discover what really happened and why. Was it poison or just ill luck?

Love a great mystery
Revisado: 01-25-25
Love Elizabeth Nolan’s characterizations. Spot on. Such a fun English mystery. Lady Hardcastle is such a hoot and a brilliant thinker. Think female version of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.

Love Lady Hardcastle and Armstrong
Revisado: 01-14-25
Love the unexpected camaraderie between the two main characters given the time period. If you loved Downton Abbey, be sure and give this a listen. I love the story, all the characters and the conversations. And I do love a good murder mystery. Can’t wait to read another one.

Great storytelling
Revisado: 01-06-25
I told myself I was not going to be fooled into rooting for the bad guy. But who is the bad and who is the good? Are we all just a little bad sometimes. I loved the twists and turns and trying to guess who was Mr Smith. Great ending but I wasn’t too surprised by it. Hard to put this one down.

Historia
Ten-year-old Patrick O'Brien is a natural target at school. Shy, dyslexic, and small for his age, he tries to hide his first-grade reading level from everyone: from his classmates, from the grandfather who cares for him, and from the teachers who are supposed to help him. But the real trouble begins when Patrick is accused of attacking a school aide. The aide promptly quits and sues the boy, his family, and the school district. Patrick's grandfather turns to the law firm of Rosato & DiNunzio for help, and Mary DiNunzio is on the case.

Revisado: 11-23-24
Good ole Mary, will she marry? Will she move, can she even help Patrick, can she stay safe? A great deal of pathways on this journey. At one point I thought how much more can go wrong. And then I finally turned the page where good things happen. I saw more of Mary’s family in this novel and truly enjoyed it.

The war we don’t talk about
Revisado: 08-27-24
Written with grit and honesty. The characters each deal with Nam in different ways. Some say the past is the past and move on. Others are haunted by the most gruesome memories triggered by innocent happenings. This is the story of the women in Vietnam. They were there and they served.

Historia
Ten years ago, after a sun-soaked summer spent in Greece, best friends Bess and Joni were cleared of having any involvement in their friend Evangeline’s death. But that didn’t stop the media from ripping apart their teenage lives like vultures. While the girls were never convicted, Joni, ever the opportunist, capitalized on her newfound infamy to become a motivational speaker. Bess, on the other hand, resolved to make her life as small and controlled as possible so she wouldn’t risk losing everything all over again. And it almost worked.

Characters mostly unrelatable
Revisado: 06-29-24
Not my kind of story. I don’t feel I really got to know these 3 main characters. What made a normal raised girl go so outside her moral compass and think it was ok. Just couldn’t care about any of them or rather relate.

Historia
Bennie Rosato, Mary DiNunzio, Judy Carrier, and Anne Murphy are back with all cylinders firing in Accused. Mary Dinuzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet, brought to the firm by a thirteen-year-old genius with a penchant for beekeeping. Allegra Gardner's sister Fiona was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case: the accused, Lonnie Stall, was seen fleeing the scene; his blood was on Fiona and her blood was on him; most damningly, Lonnie Stall pleaded guilty.

Revisado: 05-20-24
This was my second Scottoline book to listen to but my first Rosato and DiNunzio. I love getting to know the characters and having a great plot. I wanted to believe Allegra wasn’t crazy and that Anthony was the guy. You’ll have to read and find out.
