Historia
From Moon Unit Zappa, the daughter of musical visionary Frank Zappa, comes a memoir of growing up in her unconventional household in 1970s Los Angeles, coming of age in the Hollywood Hills in the 1980s as the “Valley Girl,” gaining momentum as an accidental VJ on a new network called MTV, and finding herself after losing her father, then her mother, and the testing of her most important relationships.

Good story/annoying narration
Revisado: 09-02-24
Her story is very well written. I usually enjoy listening to memoirs read by the author, but I could barely abide how often she went into an almost crying voice that seemed like bad acting. She would go into this voice for only one sentence sometimes, so it was distracting and seemed disingenuous. Highly annoying. Read the book. It’s good. Don’t listen. Her narration would have been great (she sounds a lot like Molly Shannon) if she had just read it normally and let her words do the talking rather than trying hard to emote so much. Frankly, it made me question the veracity of the entire narrative.

Waste of time
Revisado: 06-10-23
Unless you like thrillers with unfair, fantasy-based twists at the end. If a story is going to involve paranormal stuff, it should say that. I don’t read fiction just for fun. It’s got to be beautifully written (this was boiler plate), and/or teach me something about how other people move through the world. Or be just for fun. This was none of those things and I’d like my time back.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Untuck this recording quality
- De Martin J. Fogarty en 07-25-18
Horrible sound quality. Horrible.
Revisado: 09-15-18
Reading is difficult right now so I use audible. This book is useful, but I can never recommend the audible version because the sound is so horrible. I wonder how the author would feel if a recording engineer was out there trying to pass as a therapist. It’s almost impossible to listen to. It sound like she’s in a warehouse, edits are obvious (the including clipped words, the ambient sound is stressful — like a bad smell, the background noises, and even extra voices(!) now and then, are distracting. I hope she re-does it properly soon so I can recommend this recording. Her voice is fine, the sound quality is, yes, horrible — as if she just turned on her computer and started talking. No excuse for this except ignorance - it’s too easy to record decent sound nowadays. If I sound angry, well, that’s probly why I need this book. Look forward to when I can hear it.
