Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Debased language- No thanks
Revisado: 10-04-22
I was just a few hours into the first novel when I just decided I didn't need the profanity which I suppose will just escalate as the scenes go from bad to worse. It may be useful to tell a cautionary tale and alert people to some dire possibilities, but the best books I have read that are now considered "classic" don't assault the senses with vulgarity/profanity, even if it is meant to be "realistic". Call me old fashioned or whatever, but I just don't want that kind of language bouncing around my mind (there's more than enough to go around, let alone for entertainment). I have a much higher respect for authors who can tell a story well without resorting to debased language.

I could have listened to it non stop. I just wish there were no profanity. Not that it was continual but it makes me less likely to recommend it.

Historia
An international conspiracy among powerful bankers, business leaders, and government officials; closed-door meetings in the Swiss Alps; and calls for a radical transformation of every society on earth - the Great Reset sounds like it is one henchman-with-an-eyepatch away from being the plot for the next James Bond movie. But The Great Reset is not a work of fiction. It is a highly influential movement among the world’s elite to “reset” the global economy using banks, government programs, and environmental, social, and governance metrics.

Why nothing makes sense anymore.
Revisado: 03-11-22
This book explains so many of the questions about all of the things that just don't seem to make sense anymore in the pandemic and post-pandemic world. The author asks us not to believe him but to look for ourselves at the facts that he has cited. Literally hundreds of citations. This is not a right wing conspiracy theory but facts. A wake up now call because it is already in the works. In the name of social justice causes and Saving the environment there are many very wealthy and powerful people that seek to fundamentally transform. and control every aspect of our lives that we in free societies now take for granted. What is the great reset? Maybe the most succinct explanation is the chinese communist party control with a corporate twist. If consolidation of power and wealth and unbridled government spending have you concerned, this is only the beginning, unless we do some specific things which the author urges. A book for all people who are not at the very top of society.

Historia
Truth is being destroyed, free speech criminalized, the dollar fast becoming worthless. Ideologues at the helm of Big Tech, Big Media, and Big Business are set on the destruction of capitalism and democracy. Powerful federal agencies are no longer protectors of the people, but their primary adversary. Many of our forefathers had to fight a Great War to save their freedom. It falls upon this generation to fight two. But we must not lose hope. There is a way to save our nation.

America must wake up not woke up.
Revisado: 03-01-22
The author tells us bluntly our vulnerability from enemies in and out of the borders that aim to ruin the USA. Facts of these vulnerabilities are detailed then illustrated by plausible but fictional scenarios. The author nearly predicted the current "PUTIN'S WAR" . The details of the CCP and its growing menace is downright chilling. Basically, if we as a nation continue on our current trajectory we will fall into the hands of those who work on the demise of the greatest nation ever. And that will be globally catastrophic. Lincoln is still right about the USA- the last best hope. That legacy is in danger but is not lost if enough freedom loving people do what it takes to preserve it; fight for it.

Historia
Dr. Michael Guillen, a best-selling author, Emmy award-winning journalist and former physics instructor at Harvard, used to be an atheist ― until science changed his mind. Once of the opinion that people of faith are weak, small-minded folks who just don’t understand science, Dr. Guillen ultimately concluded that not only does science itself depend on faith, but faith is actually the mightiest power in the universe.

Totally worthwhile
Revisado: 09-25-21
Ever feel like the world is just a ball of confusion? The author details how his quest for truth started with pursuit of 3 doctorate degrees that if nothing else left him with more questions and confusion. Then came the discovery that truth is not limited to a scientific worldview. The implications are truly profound individually and collectively. He discovers what many before have discovered about the reality of God, but with his deeply scientific background comes to the conclusion that "believing is seeing". Also explains how everything involves faith, not just religious beliefs. Written concisely and narrated clearly; part historical, biographical, analytical, and contemporary. Provocative. The book ends with an invitation to seek truth not just by study but also by faith.

Historia
Robert MacFarlane has written that language does not just register experience, it produces it. Our religious language in particular informs and shapes our understanding of God, our sense of self, and the way we make sense of our challenging path back to loving heavenly parents. Unfortunately, to an extent we may not realize, our religious vocabulary has been shaped by prior generations whose creeds, in Joseph Smith's words, have filled the world with confusion. I make all things new, proclaimed the Lord. Regrettably, many are still mired in the past, in ways we have not recognized.

Definitely worthwhile
Revisado: 09-06-21
Reading (or listening not overly distracted) this work is like cleaning a dirty lens by clarifying truths of Christianity we are probably familiar with but get soiled by numerous influences we may hardly be aware of. This work is a great contribution to show the ongoing process of Restoration as both personal and institutional and where Reformation is not Restoration. It elucidates at least some of the "plain and precious" eternal truths that have been lost to the world at large and are now available to us through the ongoing work of Restoration; and most importantly what that means to us in our daily lives and relationships to everyone and everything- essentially being healed through the love of God. The narration by Fiona Givens is excellent.

Everyone knows how hard it can be to maintain a healthy diet. But what if some of the decisions we make about what to eat are beyond our control? Is it possible that food is addictive, like drugs or alcohol? And to what extent does the food industry know, or care, about these vulnerabilities? In Hooked, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Michael Moss sets out to answer these questions - and to find the true peril in our food.

Revisado: 07-18-21
Was food science major so I have been aware of the contents of the book though Mr Moss provides a lot of interesting detail. Now as doctor I inform my patients of what drives unhealthy eating patterns. Also as a doctor treating many diabetic patients it is easy to see how industry begets industry with the intersection of food, medicine, exercise, dieting, entertainment, motorized vehicles, etc.... all profiting from pandemic of non communicable diseases that every working person pays for directly and indirectly at an unsustainable rate.

The Brothers Karamazov tells the stirring tale of four brothers: the pleasure-seeking, impatient Dmitri; the brilliant and morose Ivan; the gentle, loving, and honest Alyosha; and the illegitimate Smerdyakov: shy, silent, and cruel. The four unite in the murder of one of literature's most despicable characters - their father. This was Dostoevsky's final and best work.

Historia
This book is about the great moral issues underlying many of the headline-making political controversies of our times. It is not a comforting book but a book about disturbing and dangerous trends. The Quest for Cosmic Justice shows how confused conceptions of justice end up promoting injustice, how confused conceptions of equality end up promoting inequality, and how the tyranny of social visions prevents many people from confronting the actual consequences of their own beliefs and policies.
