Historia
When legendary crime novelist William MacRae is found dead in suspicious circumstances at his Glasgow home, Police Scotland's premier investigator DCI John Lomond is put on the case. After discovering a list of seven bestselling authors–all old friends of MacRae's–Lomond and his team head north to the Ullapool Book Festival, where the seven are gathering to remember their fallen friend. But a vicious storm is closing in. And not everyone, it seems, has fond memories of MacRae. Or each other.

It was interesting and easy listening. Nicolas Irving's experience was exceptional and he had clear goals and attitude. Best of the best. White Feather would have been proud.

Historia
The Unexpected Spy is the riveting story of Walder's tenure in the CIA and, later, the FBI. In high-security, steel-walled rooms in Virginia, Walder watched al-Qaeda members with drones as President Bush looked over her shoulder and CIA Director George Tenet brought her donuts. She tracked chemical terrorists and searched the world for Weapons of Mass Destruction. She created a chemical terror chart that someone in the White House altered to convey information she did not have or believe, leading to the Iraq invasion.

Revisado: 11-17-24
Very well written, curated, and narrated. The frank depiction of the two big alphabet agencies is accurate and fair. I smiled at the pre-publication redactions--been there, got the tee-shirt. Nice job. A most informative and enjoyable read/listen.

Best of the Best
Revisado: 10-04-24
There is not a single DCI Jack Logan novel that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. I thought I knew all about each character. Yet, I didn't. More has appeared about my favorites.
This one has twists, turns and surprises. It's the best novel in a best series.

Again, Ed James wrote a great story about a young DC on the way up despite questionable leadership and having to chase false leads to keep them happy. But, he sticks to his instincts and proves a good investigator.

Historia
Before he was the Gray Man, Court Gentry was Sierra Six, the junior member of a CIA action team. In their first mission, they took out a terrorist leader, at a terrible price. Years have passed. The Gray Man is on a simple mission when he sees a ghost: the long-dead terrorist, but he's remarkably energetic for a dead man. A decade of time hasn't changed the Gray Man. He isn't one to leave a job unfinished or a blood debt unpaid.

Historia
It is the early 19th century, and the land recently purchased by President Thomas Jefferson stretches west for thousands of miles. Who inhabits this vast new garden of Eden? What strange beasts and natural formations can be found? Thus was the birth of Manifest Destiny and the resulting bloody battles with Indigenous tribes encountered by white explorers. Also in this volatile mix are the grizzled fur trappers and mountain men, waging war against the Native American tribes whose lands they traverse.

Great story and research; quit early on
Revisado: 05-23-24
The authors' research and writing was superb. However, one redundant irritant prompted me to mark the book finished 1/3 the way through. The narrator referred to an Indian tribe phonetically as the "Ara-karas" hundreds if not thousands of times. I suspect he meant the Arikara People. Ah-rik-ah-rah. It sounded almost like an Artificial Intelligence error.
