Slight spoiler alert**

first off, the series after this is great so push on- And this series thus far has been good, but the downside in this particular book in this 1st series is it had quite a few moments where I literally wanted to just skip pages/fast forward (though I restrained) Bc the MC(s) chose the most inappropriate time sensitive moments to be stupid and linger or go on rambling bits of monologue and waste time- when there were plenty of other moments where they could have done that- but they chose moments when they only had a small window of time to act.

It definitely put a damper on the read and was extremely annoying & made me think less of the characters.

I understand the authors reasoning plot wise for one moment in particular that was essential to how the plot played out- but the characters didn’t even reflect on how how their stupidity messed everything up/changed the course of their path when the consequences were 100% avoidable and they KNEW not to linger in the situation. I understand the authors reasoning due to plot- but not having the characters acknowledge they did this to themselves was daft as the characters were too smart up until that point, so at the very least the characters should have been angry at themselves/ learned from their mistakes & reflected on them versus just acting like “oh well, we knew this plan had risks so what can you do” They were at the finish line. They CHOSE to linger & messed everything up themselves & never acknowledged it.

How are you going to act quickly to get together a plan and push through against all odds & finally get to the end, then mess everything you worked so hard for against the odds by lingering when you knew you shouldn’t. Then later on get into long monologues in time sensitive moments- putting yourself AGAIN in potential danger by losing focus. Idiotic.

The Female Audio Narrator Misled The Narrative!

Do yourself a favor and read this book don’t listen to it! The male narrator was a 10/10 & I look forward to listening to more books from him in the future….
But the female narrator completely butchered the way this book actually reads by adding inflections to areas, not leaving pauses or adding them to areas where they should/shouldn’t be, and adding too much of a whiny tone to her narrative in places to the point- and with such a frequent consistency, that she completely misconstrued how the words actually flowed and read and connected on the page which we all know 100% changes the narrative of the story.

The female narrator had an annoying immature teenage whiny voice. I can usually overlook/get past when I don’t particularly like the pitch of a narrators voice- but this was more than just the pitch of the female narrators voice. She misrepresented the written word flow (and thus the meaning) of the story.

I only listened to this book for the first few chapters then almost deleted the Audible version because the way in which the female narrator misconstrued the authors word flow and the “voice”of the female MC chapters, it made the book actually seem pedophilic when it wasn’t I will explain…

I knew going into this book there was an age gap- which I was totally fine with as long as both parties were of age (they are btw) So that was perfectly fine on that note. The PROBLEM was that the misleading inflections, nuances, and inaccurate portrayal of the written word flow (in addition to the whiny almost valley girl voice) the female narrator gave while reading the female MCs part, made the MC come across as SO naïve and innocent for someone her age that it felt like she was literally at the emotional age of a 13-year-old (like legal/medical diagnosis type of immaturity) for someone who was 18 and then later on 20 years old….

That’s what I mean by the audio version seeming pedophilic. NOT pedophilic due to the age gap/ anything the author wrote, but pedophilic because it literally seemed like the female MC was emotionally and partly mentally SO immature she would be registered as a 13-year-old on the emotional scale and that did NOT sit right with me knowing that this was an age gap story with sexual content.

It did not sit well with me listening to the audio version of this book thinking that this female has the body and legal age of an adult but the naivety and emotional immaturity/thinking of a child- and that she will soon be entering into a huge age gap relationship that is sexual… my stomach was literally churning the first few chapters-because the first few chapters I listened to this book rather than reading it…

I’m so glad I decided to pick up reading this book and not listening to it. The ONLY reason why I didn’t trash the book all together and stop right after the first few chapters when I was getting a sick feeling in my stomach listening to it, was that I knew there was NO WAY that so many people were OK with reading a book where the female mc had the mind of a 13 yr old but the body of an adult and be OK with the obvious predatorial situation that entails.

I picked up the kindle version of the book & I went back and I reread the female MC POV chapters in the beginning of this book that I had already listened to thus far and compared the Audible version to the written word & how they respectively came across…it was a COMPLETELY different story.

I wanted to give the overall stars a higher ranking because the story itself was good when you read it, and the male narrator had that sexy deep voice we all love & he perfectly read the nuances of the written word so they portrayed accurately through his performance, but due to the female narrator I am still scarred from how predatorial of a situation I thought I was listening to due to in the set up in the first few chapters via the female MC POV being butchered in the audible version. I was torn when rating the audio performance because the male narrator was a 10/10 but the female was a 0/10 and I feel bad I might mess up the male narrators general rating- so I gave it 2/5.

BTW the physical scenes were a 10/10 on the chili scale if you like spice and a generous helping of it continuously dashed throughout. :)

I cried, laughed, and was simply struck dumb by words the of wisdom and stories she shares from not just herself and her family, but from the hundreds of people-both famous and not, that she has met along the way. If you’re in the sweeping lands of middle America, you will find solace in her words. If you are a working parent, you will find a calming reassurance that you are not alone and someone gets it. If you are a woman, or part of a marginalized group, you will find a raw strength and truth that you know can only be bred by carrying the weight of such troubles. If you are part of the military community, you will find reassurance that someone is trying to lessen the burdens you face, and that someone(and now millions) hear your story. Or... if you are are simply curious about the Obamas and what life in the White House is like, you will find everything you came for- and so much more.

Abridged version is HORRIBLE

This is obviously the abridged version of the book which I seemed to have overlooked when I purchased it. This audio version of the book cuts out important details about the characters/interactions and scenes from the book that, although may not be essential to the basic bullet points of the plot, but are essential in character building & meaning behind certain characters actions & feelings towards one another. The book is good, but I do not recommend this abridged audio version or you will be disappointed in the book thinking that it’s a failure like this abridged audio version.
