Historia
One afternoon in November 1975, ten-year-old Miranda Larkin comes home from school to find her house eerily quiet. Her mother is missing. Nothing else is out of place. There is no sign of struggle. Her mom’s pocketbook remains in the front hall, in its usual spot. So begins a mystery that will span a lifetime. What happened to Jane Larkin? Investigators suspect Jane’s husband. A criminal defense attorney, Dan Larkin would surely be an expert in outfoxing the police.

Unrealistic
Revisado: 03-05-23
Ridiculous plot holes and page eating descriptions and stories of the characters completely unrelated to the story,..along with insultingly unrealistic events.
Nothing happens for most of the book besides monotonous details of hiking in the woods, and when things finally happen it’s rapidfire and utter nonsense.

Historia
With the advent of several controversial social movements in subsequent decades, a non-traditional style of editorial persona began to take control of the news machinery in America. The weighing of ideas gave way to exclusive promotion of a specific world view, and the omission of all opposition within a devotee’s range of hearing. The American right found the voice it needed in the supremely gifted Rush Hudson Limbaugh III. Limbaugh possessed an unmatchable rhetorical reflex, a well-informed sense of each argument’s gist, and a flair for the politically incorrect.

You can’t judge a book by its cover, and its clearly the case here. Be warned, this is NOT a commemoration of Rush’s legacy.

Historia
Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

Worn, Contrived and Predictable
Revisado: 11-27-19
If you just want just another story with another lead female agent/detective who happens to be a single mom and the smartest person in the room, this book is right up your ally. To me, it just seems like such a character is the prerequisite for all the new books and it's gotten real old and tiresome...not to mention all the dopey and mean men in these stories as well. The plot is a real stretch of the imagination, and the twists and turns are too contrived and unrealistic.

Another story pushing the female as the smart lead detective. In fact, there’s two of them from different parts of the world. Silly, contrived lifetime movie packed with red herrings. Very unrealistic.

Historia
Picking up where Fall of Giants, the first novel in the extraordinary Century Trilogy, left off, Winter of the World follows its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - through a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the great dramas of World War II, and into the beginning of the long Cold War.

Infused with Today's Political Agenda
Revisado: 10-10-19
Story is well done, but I could've done without the story lines associated with today's social issues. If TODAY'S identity politics is something you're trying to escape from, you should probably move on. For that reason, I'll probably hold off on listening to the 3rd installment of the trilogy.

Historia
When Angela met Jason Powell while catering a dinner party in East Hampton, she assumed their romance would be a short-lived fling, like so many relationships between locals and summer visitors. To her surprise, Jason, a brilliant economics professor at NYU, had other plans, and they married the following summer. For Angela, the marriage turned out to be a chance to reboot her life. She and her son were finally able to move out of her mother's home to Manhattan, where no one knew about her tragic past.

Contains Some Trump Bashing
Revisado: 03-15-19
I’ve turned to audio books to escape from all the ugly politics that surrounds us. To my dismay, the author periodically sneaks in a few jabs (I.e., portraying Trump as a "serial rapist") without there actually being any necessity each time it’s done. If I wanted a political book containing commentary, I would’ve selected one. Unfortunately it’s thrown in your face too many times to finally turn me away before the ending. The story itself was okay, and the mystery was mainly driven by character naivety and seemed contrived. None it kept me interested to make it to the end.
