Historia
I'm not supposed to leave the house. But what my husband doesn't know won't kill him. I break his rules every morning on my runs. It's always been best when I have a routine. So every day I wake up, run, clean the house, wish for a better life, repeat. Every day is exactly the same. Except Thursdays. I live and breathe for Thursdays. It's when he comes. I watch from a distance. I can't help myself. But I was never supposed to talk to him. I know what you're thinking. But you don't know my story. You don't know the kind of monster my husband is. And trust me, you have no idea who I am.

Well…..
Revisado: 04-22-23
I should have taken some of the negative reviews to heart. But, I try to overlook them sometimes and focus on the good ones. At first I thought maybe it was going to be ok. But then it wasn’t. I found myself laughing at how ridiculous it was but then it became to where I had to finish. I don’t understand why we couldn’t know the husbands name but as a teacher it drove me crazy that she could not think of any way to stop saying “my husband” a kajillion times! Maybe I missed something the times I zoned out and there was a significance to his name reveal at the end. Her ankle’s hurt then she’s running, she’s not a very smart character and then she’s a dr. If it hadn’t been free I’d as for my credit back.

Thought it was good
Revisado: 04-22-23
Some of the reviews made me wonder if I’d like it but I thought it was good. As an animal person it was sad but I’ve seen and read way worse. Some of the reviews made it sound as though it was constant. I had figured it out but I still thought it was good.

Historia
Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

Loved it

Loved the story line. I had it figured out at some point but a good story. My only issue is that the reader refers to the character Robert as Richard several times which is kind of irritating. Other than that the performance and story were good

Moon Basin has been haunted for as long as anyone can remember. It started when an explosion in the mine killed 16 people. The disaster made it impossible to live in town, with underground fires spewing ash into the sky. But life in New Basin is just as fraught. The ex-mining town relies on its haunted reputation to bring in tourists, but there’s more truth to the rumors than most are willing to admit, and the mine still has a hold on everyone who lives there.

This was recommended to me by a friend. I thought it was well written and well narrated. The end gives you some things to think about as far as maybe a sequel or possibly question what you thought you knew while listening. Great story!

Still not quite sure what happened
Revisado: 01-16-20
First, I thought the narrator was excellent. The idea of the story was pretty good but after investing so much time into listening to it I am still not 100% sure what exactly was going on. I had a hard time staying focused on it which is usually not the case for me. I think it was a creative idea but I think it was pretty confusing at times. About 18 hours in I was wracking my brain trying to figure out if "Christopher's mother" actually had name because the author just kept calling her "Christopher's mother" rather than by her name or her or she. Then, later on they must have figured it out and started using her name more. There were some editing errors as well and a few descriptions that were kind of confusing- like a scene where people were riding in the bed of a truck but then maybe in the the backseat but then in the bed??? I also feel like the story was WAY too long. Could have been shortened considerably. A friend had told me that she heard it wasn't very good. I wanted to finish though- in the hopes that it was going to redeem itself.

Love Clive Barker
Revisado: 09-30-19
I read this book many many years ago and decided to re-read (listen) to it again. The narration was OK- would have probably chosen a better narrator had it been me. The content of the book, in my opinion, would call for a more "sexy" voice to match the description of the main character. I love the story and how Clive Barker doesn't shy away from the sexual scenes that are out of the "norm" for most people.

I really enjoyed this book. Although I had figured out who was who and what happened it was still very interesting and kept my attention throughout. I found it very interesting that this is based on a true story and that the Children's Home and the people who ran it were real people and truly committed this crimes on these children. Definitely recommend it.

Couldn't put it down
Revisado: 09-30-19
This was recommended to me by a friend. It was excellent. I listen to and from work and usually just when driving unless a book catches me. I listened to this at the store, while doing laundry, doing things around the house etc. It was VERY well written and kept me interested the entire time. The narration was also excellent. Great story line and easy to visualize what was happening.
