Historia
Elias McKay is an Extractionist. As an “Xwire” with a head full of experimental mites, he specializes in pulling minds out of virtual space and getting them back into their bodies intact. He’s one of the best. But he’s fallen on hard times. After getting banned by the government from doing lucrative legal work due to a past indiscretion, McKay picks up shady gigs wherever he can find them. His latest job takes him to Singapore for a quick extraction of a corporate bigwig, but things go from bad to worse when hired muscle, black ops agents, and hackers attack him and his client.

I hate cyberpunk…but I loved Extractionist
Revisado: 03-15-25
Not normally the genre I gravitate towards, but the fascinating metaphor for cyberspace and digital architecture was a great setting. Characters that pull you in from the get-go, a mix of high action and whodunnit, and a sneaky ability to teach lessons about computer science, artificial intelligence, and modern data structures make this one a must read in my book.

Historia
In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles (micro-robots) has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

A perfect end. Satisfying, challenging, humorous and exhilarating. It’s hard to wrap up a series so grand and the writers just nailed it.

Historia
For generations, the solar system—Mars, the Moon, the Asteroid Belt—was humanity's great frontier. Until now. The alien artifact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has appeared in Uranus's orbit, where it has built a massive gate that leads to a starless dark. Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artifact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core.

Love the mainline story, could pass on the new characters
Revisado: 02-27-22
The core characters’ line was incredible as always, and the new characters had their moments. Would have liked more Rocinante adventures, less religious stuff. Still a masterpiece and masterfully voiced.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Modern masterpiece
Revisado: 08-14-21
An instant favorite. I thought this would be bland fan service and cheese in-jokes but it was a grand adventure, a riveting love story and a mind-bending exploration of timespace. Would give it 6 stars if Scalzi would agree to write a dang sequel!

Enjoyed the core characters and the fan service. Didn’t love the Price storyline and the ending wasn’t terribly satisfying. Hated the vocal rasp.

Historia
From the time of Ancient Sumeria, the heavy infantry phalanx dominated the battlefield. Armed with spears or pikes, standing shoulder to shoulder with shields interlocking, the men of the phalanx presented an impenetrable wall of wood and metal to the enemy. Until, that is, the Roman legion emerged to challenge them as masters of infantry battle.

Great book, excellent takeaways, broken audio
Revisado: 03-18-19
Skips, static and corrupted file at the beginning of the audiobook. Not great.
Story and content wise, both were excellent. Decent VO and a really detailed dissertation of the topic at hand.
