Historia
Dotson Rader arrived in New York in 1963, a young stranger to the city, knowing no one, owning nothing - until a few lucky events opened up an extraordinary new world for him. Through his words, we enter this ardent, unforgettable world of writers, artists, radicals, and sexual rebels in a time of unprecedented cultural freedom and defiance. Against the backdrop of the women's rights, gay liberation, civil rights, and anti-war movements, a singular new period of experimentation and liberation is born.

Not a Fan of Truman Capote except for his outstanding book, In Cold Blood.

Historia
In 1969, America was still undergoing plenty of social turmoil, much of it the result of sweeping changes made via the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War, which helped spark the counterculture. Protests were prominent across the country, and one of the movements galvanized during this time was on behalf of the LGBT community, who were often subjected to discrimination in all facets of life.

Not bad. Too short.

I enjoyed this brief recollection of the Stonewall riots. I already knew about Stonewall through my own research. I was hoping this book had a few more nuggets of information.
Good read for those who know nothing about Stonewall and the history of LGBTQ political activism.

Historia
Anne Lister was extraordinary. Fearless, charismatic, and determined to explore her lesbian sexuality, she forged her own path in a society that had no language to define her. She was a landowner, an industrialist, and a prolific diarist whose output has secured her legacy as one of the most fascinating figures of the 19th century. Gentleman Jack: The Real Anne Lister follows Anne from her crumbling ancestral home in Yorkshire to the glittering courts of Denmark as she resolves to put past heartbreak behind her and find herself a wife.

A true pioneer on many levels

First, thanks to HBO for introducing me to Anne Lister, a remarkable iconic figure from the 19th century. Her life story is not without faults given her class and conservative politics but she is captivating, and extraordinary for an independent woman living on her own terms and brave for loving other women in an oppressive Era for females. Listening to the audiobook narration(s) and loving the HBO series, especially Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle's outstanding performances, is a delight.
The Audible book, HBO series and the actors deserve much applause and industry awards.
