Disappointed
Revisado: 05-09-24
Freida McFadden is better than this. The book was ok. Many, many times I caught myself rolling my eyes. I wouldn’t think a surgeon could be so stupid. The final reveal was unexpected. The epilogue was another eye roll. Narrator was ok. Not great, not bad. I’m glad this isn’t the first book of hers I’ve read.

Historia
Upending the conventional theory that generational differences are caused by major events, Dr. Jean Twenge analyzes data on 39 million people from robust national surveys—some going back nearly a century—to show that changes in technology are the underlying driver of each generation’s unique makeup. In this revelatory work, Twenge outlines key shifts in attitudes and lifestyle choices that define each generation regarding gender, income, politics, race, sexuality, marriage, mental health, and much more.

Informative & well presented

I had wondered why the millennial generation was not acting like the civic generation predicted by Strauss & Howe. Excellent capsule of Gen Z. As a parent of two Gen Z members I instantly related to her discussion of YOU CANT SAY THAT tirades. This one will be added to my short list of transformative reads.

They tried to kill or capture Yozef Kolsko. The possibility that Caedellium could have peaceful years going forward is refuted. The key is bringing down Narthon. But how? Caedellium is too small, despite innovations by Yozef Kolsko (Joseph Colsco) and Mark Kaldwel (Caldwell), humans cast away on the planet Anyar. Allies are needed. Campaigns to be planned. Risks to be taken. For Yozef Kolsko, it means assuming roles he never imagined or believed himself capable. Anyar will never be the same.

Complex characters, plot and development. IMHO it is the best of the series. I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next segment.

Interesting —- puzzling — enjoyable. 😎
Revisado: 12-05-22
Time travel approached with an unexpected twist.
Story is set in modern day England, and yes the MC having an American accent can be considered “unauthentic.” However it doesn’t harm the story. It’s time travel - you’re supposed to feel a little off.
My first introduction to this author; looking forward to listening to more.
No story outline, go on the journey and enjoy 😉

Historia
Imagine The Story of O starring a Berkeley Ph.D. in comparative literature, who moonlights as a bike messenger, with a penchant for irony, self-analysis and as well as anal pleasures. Set in both San Francisco and the more chateau-friendly, Napa Valley, Weatherfield's deliciously decadent novel takes you on a sexually explicit journey into a netherworld of slave auctions, training regimes, enticing "ponies", (people) preening for dressage competitions. Desire runs rampant in this story of uncompromising mastery.

Good, solid but a classic of the genre? I’m missing something. I think I’ll read it again, more slowly. YMMV

The Destiny’s Crucible series chronicles the incredible adventure of Joseph Colsco, a college student of no particular importance who is thrust into an unimaginable fate by an accident that couldn’t happen - but did. Cast naked on the planet Anyar, he forges a new life for himself and rises to prominence and responsibilities he would otherwise never have imagined. However, much is left undone and uncertain.

Did we listen to the same book?
Revisado: 09-16-22
I was hesitant about buying this book because of the negative reviews. Main complaint seemed to be not advancing the story line.
Other than 1 piece, I found the stories to be captivating - filling in gaps of knowledge. This is an epic with many moving parts. I’m looking forward to seeing how the seemingly unimportant nuggets became important plot points down the road.
I agree it would have been helpful to be numbered 4.5 instead of 5.

Interesting premise. The villains are evil, the heroes are oh so noble. I kept repeating to myself “she is only 11”. I just couldn’t get past that point.

Historia
For millennia, the Weave, an alliance of species, have fought to resist the telepathic Amplitur, who strive to unite all self-aware life-forms in their great "Purpose." The Weave is slowly losing ground, but for both sides, warfare focuses more on outthinking and outmaneuvering your foe than destruction. In fact, most regard violence as hideously barbaric, and even the thought of harming another sentient being is beyond imagining.

Starts slow. I rarely do not finish once I start. I’m glad I soldiered through. There are unexpected plot twists that were not telegraphed but remained true to the narrative. My kudos to the author’s intellectual honesty😊
Refreshing approach to the first contact genre.

Historia
Arabella is a proud woman of Victorian England who rebels against the puritanical norms of society. She learns early in life that she loves the pleasures of sex and is in no way ashamed of her feelings. In fact, she felt sorry for women who did not experience the joys of sex but saw it merely as a rather "shameful duty". She describes, in great detail, the many “erotic adventures” she and her friends participate in behind the closed doors of fashionable Victorian homes.

Horrible Narration

Someone tell the narrator she is performing not just reading monotone sentence fragments.
The plot had potential but the word choices were so bad as to be laughable.
