good story-i can't take the narrator anymore
Revisado: 12-01-24
The story is great, but I've made it through 3 of these books and I'm sorry, but the narrator's voice gets more an more tinny and nasal with each book. I'm not going to be finishing this series sadly because of this.

Books 1 & 2 great. Book 3-what happened?
Revisado: 04-01-24
I enjoyed books one and two.
Good story, development of characters was good and the story lines were great.
Then we get to book 3 and he goes off the rails.
****possible spoiler****
The description and graphic details of the kidnapped girls was disturbing and unnecessary. This will make me hesitant to purchase any more by this author.

Historia
On the outside, Mary Jane Fonder seemed like a kindly 66-year-old congregant of the Lutheran church in Springfield Township, PA. But inside, she longed for the church's handsome Pastor Gregory Shreaves, a former golf pro who sparked her most sinful thoughts. When Mary Jane let her feelings be known, the Pastor gently pushed her away. But her obsession only grew stronger when she became convinced that he was romantically involved with a younger church member, a woman named Rhonda Smith. Rhonda was doing volunteer work in the church office one day when she was shot to death.

Okay story - TERRIBLE NARRATION!
Revisado: 11-23-18
An interesting story, which is the ONLY reason I stayed with this book. The narration was like listening to Aunt Edna read to me. And the mispronunciation of several words, over AND over.
clique was pronounced CLEEK throughout the entire book
evangelical was pronounced 3 different ways

Historia
Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....

Could have been great
Revisado: 01-23-17
What disappointed you about And One Last Thing...?
I really wanted to like this - but it turned into a description of all the ways she could enjoy sex
Has And One Last Thing... turned you off from other books in this genre?
Probably - if the way she "gets her groove back" is that I have to listen to all her sexual escapades
Which scene was your favorite?
When she sent out the newsletter
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

For a long time, Edie thought she had escaped. It started in an Appalachian trailer park, where a young girl dreamed of becoming a doctor. But every day Edie woke up to her reality: a poverty-stricken world full of alcohol and violence, where getting out seemed impossible. She taught herself to drive a stick shift truck at 12 years old so she could get her drunk daddy home from the bar. She spent Saturdays at Brushy Mountain prison visiting her incarcerated cousin. She watched adults eat while her stomach gnawed.

Revisado: 09-26-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
narration
Would you be willing to try another book from Edie Wadsworth? Why or why not?
possibly. lots felt very dramatic
Would you be willing to try another one of Lisa Larson’s performances?
no
Do you think All the Pretty Things needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
no
Any additional comments?
i love her blog, but this writing seemed overly dramatic - with phrases like " i had never felt this hopeless...." or " i felt like i was sinking to the bottom of the sea".
her describing how the sun came through the trees at the age of 5 or 6?
her story is definitely one of redemption and hope, just didn't enjoy the writing style - OR THE NARRATOR!

Historia
The tragic story of Susan Powell and her murdered boys, Charlie and Braden, is the only case that rivals the Jon Benet Ramsey saga in the annals of true crime. When the pretty, blonde Utah mother went missing in December of 2009 the media was swept up in the story - with lenses and microphones trained on Susan's husband, Josh. He said he had no idea what happened to his young wife, and that he and the boys had been camping in the middle of a snowstorm.

Gripping story, but the female narrator.....
Revisado: 03-06-16
Would you listen to If I Can't Have You: again? Why?
no, the female narrator was awful (no offense to her, but almost stopped listening several times, but had to hear the end!)
What was one of the most memorable moments of If I Can't Have You:?
too many
How could the performance have been better?
different female narrator
If you could give If I Can't Have You: a new subtitle, what would it be?
evil personified
