Warning - Animal cruelty
Revisado: 05-05-25
I did not finish this book, as the animal cruely in the back story of the villain was too much for me. I'm tired of stories of women kidnapped and tortured.

Historia
There’s a literary niche for all tastes including those who think that either Agatha Christie wasn’t funny enough or that PG Wodehouse didn’t feature anywhere near as many baffling murders as he could have. The Case of the Canterfell Codicil is a classic, cozy, locked-room mystery written in the style of an homage to PG Wodehouse.

Excellent narration, weak story

While the narration is excellent, the story does not hold your attention. Fine for multi-tasking.

Afraid that his girlfriend, fellow agent Maggie Keeley, will be dragged into a high-stakes political game, he delays his decision.

Warning: Animal Cruelty
Revisado: 09-10-22
There was far too much detailed, long drawn out animal cruelty in the first few minutes. I got this through Audible Plus or would have returned it for credit. I tried to fast forward through these scenes, but they went on too long. I made it through less than hour before I gave up.

Historia
An historic literary event: the publication of a newly discovered novel, the earliest known work from Harper Lee, the beloved, best-selling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

Very disappointing from Harper Lee
Revisado: 08-20-15
Would you try another book from Harper Lee and/or Reese Witherspoon?
Yes.
What was most disappointing about Harper Lee’s story?
The story seemed half-done, just a real let down after To Kill a Mockingbird. I had read that this was a first-effort rejected by publishers. Whatever the story, it might be ok as a stand-alone book, but with the greatness of To Kill a Mockingbird, this one fell far short of what I had hoped for.
What about Reese Witherspoon’s performance did you like?
Well done, the southern drawl was not over played.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment in the story line and, of course, in Atticus.

Well done mystery set in Hawaii
Revisado: 08-20-15
What did you love best about The Musubi Murder?
The setting, background, and characters seemed very true to life in a college setting.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Not a thriller, fun, a little suspenseful at times.
Have you listened to any of Nicole Gose’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No.
Who was the most memorable character of The Musubi Murder and why?
The heroine and her sidekick are both well done. Narration is great, spot-on.

The initial scene between the union and confederate soldier grabs your attention.
Have you listened to any of Phil Gigante’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Disappointing, very disjointed.
Revisado: 10-05-14
Would you try another book from Kate Atkinson and/or Susan Jameson?
Probably not. This book was hard to follow; I kept thinking that my ipod must be on "shuffle."
What could Kate Atkinson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Reduce the jumping from one "case history" to another. I know this is a literary device but for some reason, it made this book very difficult to follow and even remember the characters from one jump to another.
What about Susan Jameson’s performance did you like?
Good voice, easy to understand, nice accent.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No.

Different but excellent, suspenseful.
Revisado: 07-27-14
Would you listen to Wayfaring Stranger again? Why?
No, I do not listen to books twice. This was a good James Lee Burke novel, more novel than typical mystery/police of Hackberry Holland or Dave Robicheaux.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Holland is a thoughtful Dave Robicheaux
Which scene was your favorite?
Final scene was quite good, suspenseful to the end.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.

Gruesome Sci-Fi, not what I expected
Revisado: 06-22-14
Would you try another book from Allen Dusk and/or Rose Caraway?
No.
What was most disappointing about Allen Dusk’s story?
I thought this was a light spy story, turned into a very gruesome, violent sci-fi, with a bit of dark humor. I really tried, but I could not make it all the way through, especially after the children were killed. I won't say more to spoil the story for those who like this kind of story.
Any additional comments?
Summary was very misleading, not at all what I expected. Some funny dark humor and memorable characters, but the violence was just too much.

With help from her friends - the irascible gray cat Pewter, the wise corgi Tee Tucker, and Tally, the exuberant Jack Russell - Sneaky crisscrosses her home state of Virginia hoping to go where no cat since Socks Clinton has gone: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In the tradition of her heroine, Sojourner Truth, she takes her case to the masses. Journeying from the lair of the red-shouldered hawk to the nest of the tufted titmouse, from a pasture full of curmudgeonly cows to the stately halls of Monticello, the tenacious tiger cat even secures the chattering support of Thomas Jefferson’s mice.

This is a political commentary.
Revisado: 05-22-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone looking for political commentary, not a mystery.
Would you ever listen to anything by Rita Mae Brown again?
Yes, but not in this genre.
How could the performance have been better?
Never finished it.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment and a bit of anger that this was billed as a Sneaky Pie mystery. I kept listening for the story line--there is none, just commentary by the usual Sneaky Pie characters. Not at all what I was looking for.
