Love the genre but this was formulaic and repetitive, intended to invoke outrage judgment of the characters choices.

Historia
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

Narration was painfully bad
Revisado: 08-03-24
Could not force myself to listen to more than a few minutes at a time - just enough so that it is eligible for return. Narrator tries to sound like a young child - gender unknown. Sounds like they faked a child’s voice and then sped up the recoding to make it sound even less like a real person. Could this be an AI narrating? Nah - AI would do better than this. Story - as far as I could get - seems like a tired formulaic rendition.

Historia
Before the lights went out, Jack Warrant never considered himself a prepper. That was someone on the edge, a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday cultist who had a fatalistic view of the world. He was neither a theorist nor a cultist. He was an optimist. At least that was what he told himself when the darker thoughts creeped into his psyche as he stared at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Whenever he started down the rabbit hole, he always clawed his way back into the sunlight.

Historia
1992. All across the United States respectable, upstanding citizens are showing up dead. These deaths could be accidents, and they don’t appear to be connected—until a fatal fall from a high-floor window attracts some unexpected attention. That attention comes from the secretary of defense. All of a sudden he wants an interagency task force to investigate. And he wants Jack Reacher as the army’s representative. If Reacher gets a result, great. If not, he’s a convenient fall guy.

Revisado: 12-30-23
Unrealistic, convoluted, and with such poorly developed characters that I really didn’t care or have interest in what happened. So far fetched it puts the nation’s many conspiracy theorists to shame.

Historia
The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: They are allowed to go outside.

Joe - and C.J. - are back!
Revisado: 04-07-23
The character Joe Pickett was almost unrecognizable in Book 22, Shadows Reel. The entire novel made me wonder whether C.J. had gone off the rails. It was filled with barely related story lines and right-wing conspiracy theories.
I was glad to see that the old Joe Pickett is back in Storm Watch. Box has presented a remarkably accurate picture of Wyoming's weather, people, economy, corrupt politics, and current controversies while telling a well-organized, suspenseful, and satisfying story.

Terribly disappointing. Two hardly-related stories in parallel in order to make one book. Lots of obscure historical ramblings, lots of racial and ethnic stereotyping, and lots of “speculation” on the origin of social unrest in 2022 America that is extremely one-sided and that doesn’t fit in a joe Pickett novel. Oh, well, he did mention a cow (twice) and some raptors so I guess that makes it a bonafide Game Warden Pickett novel?

Historia
When unforeseen circumstances during an innovative—and unsanctioned—commercial asteroid-mining mission leave two crew members stranded, those who make it back must engineer a rescue, all while navigating a shifting web of global political alliances and renewed Cold War tensions. With Earth governments consumed by the ravages of climate change and unable to take the risks necessary to make rapid progress in space, the crew must build their own next-gen spacecraft capable of mounting a rescue in time for the asteroid's next swing by Earth.

Boring story and offensive stereotypes
Revisado: 02-20-23
Suarez was one of favorite authors - until now. I forced myself to get 2/3 through to give it a fair chance but without success. There is nothing new in the story, no cool new technology, and the dialog between characters is bland, uninteresting or sophomoric. Stereotyping by racial, national, and ethnic identify are rampant. The narrator’s accent of awful and insulting.

Historia
It is three in the morning when Bobby Western plunges from the Coast Guard tender into darkness. His dive light illuminates the sunken jet, nine bodies still buckled in their seats, hair floating, eyes devoid of speculation. Missing from the site are the pilot’s bag, the plane’s black box, and the tenth passenger. A collateral witness to machinations that can only bring him harm, Western is shadowed in body and spirit—by men with badges; by the ghost of his father, inventor of the bomb that melted glass and flesh in Hiroshima; and by his sister, the love and ruin of his soul.
