Amazing Things About the Bible You Rarely Hear About
Revisado: 09-28-24
Since Haunted Cosmos is on a break and there wasn't an audio of DVD's Giants book, but this podcast was here, I am making my way through interesting episodes. This is really fascinating stuff! You should do an interview with Ben and Brian at Haunted Cosmos. You could probably draw in more viewers from their audience.
Please stop with the entire minute of jazz at the beginning though lol. I know you like jazz but it does not the atmosphere make, and I am sure that I'm not the only one who doesn't really like it much. 30s is enough for intro music.
Also, I'd appreciate if it was a little louder. I switch from this to music and then the music is blasting.
The production quality in general leaves much to be desired but I'm sure that's a budget issue. The conversation is worth it.

Second-Most Eye-Opening Book I've Read
Revisado: 09-03-24
This book has really helped me to get a grasp on the supernatural elements of the Bible. He was right that I would never read the Bible the same way again. I am so appreciative that someone has taken the time to write this out for us to make sense of things like Enoch, the Watchers, and everything else that is so hard for us to grasp these days. I had noticed the Bible calling spirits other than Yahweh "gods" and I'd read Enoch, and I had a vague understanding of most topics covered in this book, but it drew them together for me and clarified a lot of things that had been fuzzy at best. There was also plenty of novel information, and some that completely changed my view on some small matters.
Yet, through it all, I'm not only still a Christian, but more firm in my faith and understanding. This book will also help anyone hoping to witness to pagans.

Historia
The Kennedy name has long been synonymous with wealth, power, glamor, and—above all else—integrity. But this carefully constructed veneer hides a dark truth: the pattern of Kennedy men physically and psychologically abusing women and girls, leaving a trail of ruin and death in each generation’s wake. Through decades of scandal after scandal—from sexual assaults to reputational slander, suicides to manslaughter—the family and their defenders have kept the Kennedy brand intact.

A look into the darkness of the Kennedy world
Revisado: 08-17-24
I'd always grown up thinking of the Kennedys as history, and I assumed the president must have been great because of how he was praised and remembered. Never did I hear about his infidelity.
Although the book is focused on the narcissism and misogynistic mentality surrounding the Kennedy family, Maureen does a good job painting a complex picture of these people. They all have faults and strengths. The "villains" aren't entirely evil and the "victims" aren't entirely good.
There is a definite feminist bend in this book, but as a woman who does not consider herself feminist, I don't think it was over-the-top. The women's troubles are the focus of the book and it's important to recognize the old trappings of full patriarchy leftover from the very beginning of the Kennedy dynasty. While I think things have gone too far today in the culture, there was an abysmal lack of protection for women prior unless they were lucky enough to already have a good father and husband.
She also used the silly term, "differently abled" instead of the more accurate "disabled" but again, it doesn't change the importance of the subject matter. The story of Rosemary Kennedy is one everyone should know.
This book reminds me that powerful people can affect the stories I hear and I should always be careful who I trust. And by the end, I was grateful to have my currently unemployed husband.

He's Always Calm
Revisado: 07-19-24
Michael is great at taking things in stride during conflict, and in general has a peace around him. If you're avoiding angry news or looking for a more compassionate Christian perspective, Knowles is the way to go. Klavan is a close second for calm. I like Walsh but he can be too aggressive at times and I find myself getting more frustrated when I listen to him too much. Knowles is much better for subjects that get you worked up. He still says things exactly how they are without riling you up.

A great way to get the story in simpler language
Revisado: 05-08-24
My only complaint is that this book is 2 hours long and yet would cost me $10 at least. I usually try to not use my credits on books less than the membership price but I made an exception not realizing how short it was.
Other than that, this book was excellent like all of Sutcliff's work. I remembered reading Eagle of the Ninth and Song for a Dark Queen in middle school and loving them, and I've had a fascination with the dawning of civilization in various places ever since, so as an adult and missing what was not only good writing but also great entertainment, I looked for her books. All of them are well done, well narrated too, but short for me. They seem awfully expensive for the length.

Bittersweet
Revisado: 04-20-24
I remembered reading A Song for a Dark Queen and The Eagle of the Ninth by this author once and was excited to find more available on Audible, and I was not disappointed.
This probably isn't a story for young kids but teens would appreciate it, I think, and it is also educational about the Roman occupation of Britain, the licentiousness of Rome, and also how any people can be warm or cold-hearted. Life was so brutal back then.
Writing is excellent, narration is excellent.
I only wish his friend from the tribe had been met again, and that he could have smeared a victory in a certain villain's face, but sweet vengeance wasn't really the point.

All of us long to know what life after death will be like. Best-selling author John Burke is no exception. In Imagine Heaven, Burke compares over 100 gripping stories of near-death experiences (NDEs) to what Scripture says about our biggest questions of heaven: Will I be myself? Will I see friends and loved ones? What will heaven look like? What is God like? What will we do forever? What about children and pets?

Life changing
Revisado: 07-12-23
I recently had a dream where I lived in a dark grimy city in a small house, but I had all of my day-to-day things that I actually have. I could see death coming via bombs being set off closer and closer to where I lived. I and some loved ones had to get out immediately, but I had nothing prepared to take with me. So all I wanted were my hiking boots. But then I couldn’t even find those.
What stuck with me as I descended the balcony stairs was that I couldn’t take anything with me. And then at the bottom of the stairs, there was a man with a knife who might have been about to kill me, but then I realized even my shoes didn’t matter before I woke up.
Only a week or two after that dream I heard the author of this book on Andrew Klavan’s show and was fascinated to listen.
I really didn’t care for the narrator’s alternative voices, especially for women and children, but the content of the book didn’t fail to reach me. I am inspired like I needed to be to live for the next life and not for this one. The author even mentioned my recent consideration: “you can’t take these things with you.”
I am autistic, have an autoimmune disease, and inattentive type executive function disorder (ADHD). Honestly it can make me extra selfish and materialistic now that I have responsibilities to other people, like my son. I can never get the chaos under control because I can’t afford the care or the organizational materials I need, and I can’t stop trying or it just knocks me flat and everything gets worse. It can be very distracting from my pursuit of God, which of course only adds to the trouble.
I am really inspired now, and I will never forget what I read in this book, to give me the joy and courage to love more fully.

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Enchanting
Revisado: 01-20-23
I read Harry Potter for the first time as a teenager while it was still coming out. As a Christian, I’d heard a lot about how evil it is, and although I understand the reasoning, I believe that there is also a lot of positive messaging. If your kid can understand that it’s an imaginative fantasy story and the magic isn’t real, I see no problem with this series and enjoy it a lot. It’s a great introduction to novels for a child who can put it in the right category. I was able to, so I think many other kids can as well.
It isn’t badly written for a children’s book and contains positive messages about courage, friendship, loyalty, and triumphing through adversity. At the same time it is silly and whimsical. Subsequent books deal with the same themes and Rowling’s writing improves, and the books turn from children’s literature to young adult.
I have read better children’s books since Harry Potter, for example, The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier, but Harry Potter will always have a special place with me anyway.

Historia
Everywhere hailed as a masterpiece of historical adventure, this enthralling narrative recounts the experiences of 12 American sailors who were shipwrecked off the coast of Africa in 1815, captured by desert nomads, sold into slavery, and subjected to a hellish two-month journey through the bone-dry heart of the Sahara. The ordeal of these men - who found themselves tested by barbarism, murder, starvation, death, dehydration, and hostile tribes that roamed the desert on camelback - is made indelibly vivid in this gripping account of courage, brotherhood, and survival.

A True Epic That Reveals the Harsh Reality of the Slave Trade
Revisado: 01-18-23
I cried more than once for the fates of the men in this crew. It was not only a true story, but a story that envelopes much of the human condition. The troublesome lives of the native inhabitants of the Sahara, and the way the harsh environment fashioned a harsh people is evident.
I am moved to believe that what happened to Riley was no less than a message to the new nation of America about the evils of slavery.
