The perfect time killer

I got the bundle that includes two of these trivia books. I preferred the animated films book, but that was mostly because I was more familiar with and more fond of the selection of movies featured there. Just because this focuses on 'family films,' though, doesn't mean they're a bunch of kid movies. There's a lot of classics here, too, that I was happy to learn some facts and trivia about. I've heard a lot of these kinds of trivia tidbits over the years, but there were still some here that I hadn't! And the fact that each trivia question comes with an extra little fact about the movie makes it even more engaging.
And I only just realized both books come with a free PDF of all the questions. That's really cool -- would be great to bring out at a party with a bunch of film/trivia buffs! Highly recommend these titles if any of this sounds at all interesting to you, or if you're just looking for a way to get through your workday. Costs less than a meal at McDonald's does these days!

I know this is billed as the 'family films' collection, but I listened to this on my own and enjoyed it a lot. It's the perfect kind of thing for me to listen to while doing mundane work: distracts you from boredom, but isn't too involved that you can't focus on anything else. I imagine it'd also be pretty great for long car trips, or even get togethers with friends. I don't think you can order those on Amazon, though.
I preferred the 'animated films' section because there were more movies I remembered from my childhood, but the 'family films' section is not strictly kids movies or anything like that. Lots of older classics I was surprised to see on the list, too, like Back to the Future. I also really like how after you get the answer to each question, they also tell you a fact that's sort of tangentially related. It works really well and I feel like I learned some stuff even I hadn't heard of, and I like to think of myself as a movie buff.
If I had to choose one of the two included books, I'd probably pick the animated films focused one, but at this price, I think the bundle is the clear best option. I'm definitely going to flex some new movie facts to my friends after this.

The best way to experience this book

I previously ordered Estelle Li and the September Issue, but when I saw it on Audible, I decided to pick it up here, too. I gotta say, the Audible version is the way to go. The narration is fantastic, and I'm able to do work while listening and not have to worry about picking up and putting down the book or getting distracted while reading (a big problem for me).
The style of writing also works really well with the narration Elyse Osterhaug provides. The author's style has a lot of allegorical and metaphorical wordplay, but the narration doesn't seem halted or caught up by that at all. Actually, I think it helps the words come off the page even better than reading it myself. Very natural.
As for the book itself, it's really good, and not too long, which is perfect for me. I have trouble committing to longer stories but shorter ones often lose some of the stuff that makes a story memorable. Thankfully, this one does a great job of keeping you engaged without outstaying its welcome. Even if you don't know the first thing about modelling, this is worth a read, especially if you're into cutthroat, industry-focused drama. I'm personally going to be on the lookout for follow up Top Model stories, and will probably be picking them up on Audible when they come out.
