Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Historia
Rife with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York’s one-percenters, Pineapple Street is a smart, escapist novel that sparkles with wit. Full of recognizable, loveable—if fallible—characters, it’s about the peculiar unknowability of someone else’s family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love—all wrapped in a story that is a sheer delight.

Liked it.
Revisado: 11-16-23
Overall, not a bad read. I did find several of the characters to be quite unlikable for the majority of the book, though I recognized some redeemable qualities. I would’ve liked a bit more at the end in terms of redemption and vindication. But it was worth the time.

Magnificent rating!
Revisado: 08-27-22
Typically when I read a story I have an idea how I want it to end. This time I found myself identifying completely with the mixed up feelings of Rachel. I had no idea how I really wanted it to end, until I did. Until she did. And I ached for that ending just the same. Beautifully and sensitively written!

Great book!
Revisado: 01-24-21
I was concerned when I saw the reviews maligning this book and it’s performance. But I loved Lilac Girls so much, that I had to give it a chance.
Claims that the Russian accents are slightly off or accurate. But I couldn’t do any better myself, and once you get past that and let yourself get immersed in the story, I believe the dramatic interpretation is very well done. It is very detailed, but if you enjoy historical detail, it’s worth the time.
