Historia
No one knows exactly when it began or where it originated. A terrifying new plague is spreading like wildfire across the country, striking cities one by one: Boston, Detroit, Seattle. The doctors call it Draco Incendia Trychophyton. To everyone else it's Dragonscale, a highly contagious, deadly spore that marks its hosts with beautiful black and gold marks across their bodies - before causing them to burst into flames. Millions are infected; blazes erupt everywhere. There is no antidote. No one is safe.

a terrific story!
Revisado: 10-17-16
If you could sum up The Fireman in three words, what would they be?
absorbing, unexpected, unforgettable.
Have you listened to any of Kate Mulgrew’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Kate Mulgrew did a fabulous job on The Fireman, as expected. I love her voice, and seeing her name as narrator here was a compelling reason to listen.Oddly enough, I wasn't as taken with her narration of Born With Teeth: A Memoir. I felt a disconnect at points, probably due to her professionalism. Hearing her voice rock-solid when reading her own words about a tragic or emotional event was somewhat jarring, as if I thought she should be acting out those parts.
Any additional comments?
This is one of those books that I couldn't limit to my daily commute - I had to listen in the evenings as well, as I would be totally preoccupied with Harper throughout the evening.
FWIW, I somehow had missed that Joe Hill is Stephen and Tabitha King's son... if Joe is anywhere near as prolific as his father, I will be entertained for years to come.

Historia
The Condition tells the story of the McKotches, a proper New England family that comes apart during one fateful summer. One day on the beach, Frank McKotch is struck by an image he cannot forget: his 13-year-old daughter, Gwen, strangely infantile in her child-sized bikini, standing a full head shorter than her younger cousin Charlotte. At that moment, he knows a truth that he can never again unknow: something is terribly wrong with his only daughter.

Poor recommendation....
Revisado: 02-24-09
Like another reviewer, I chose this book based on the Audible recommendation, and I, too, was very disappointed. The author continually presented situations where the characters could make a choice and change their lives, but instead they consistently made bad choices. There were so many opportunities to give the characters some depth; it's too bad the author kept her characters so one-dimensional.
