Historia
In a stunning literary debut, Carrie Fisher chronicles the excruciatingly funny adventures of Suzanne Vale, young film star and drug addict, who survives a rehab clinic only to rejoin the equally harrowing world of Hollywood. Out there on the edge, despair flips into hilarity, and we're left laughing as Suzanne struggles to come to terms with her various fantasylands. Carrie Fisher's reading of her first novel evokes the deliciously irreverent humor that formed the lens through which she looked at life in the '80s.

Carrie’s wry wit wins every time
Revisado: 05-25-24
I’ve read “Postcards from the Edge” three or four times now and am still amazed, amused, and truly entertained by Carrie Fischer’s wit and wisdom in this book. (I miss you, space Mom) I think the reason I enjoy this book particularly is that I relate so much to Suzanne (Carrie)—especially her upset and disappointment with her body, her anxiety that she can’t find the right work, the feeling of never being enough—really hits home. This book is also like a time capsule for the late 70’s; she talks about changing her answering machine message and a number of other pop culture-y things that brought a wave of nostalgia for me as a GenX kid. TL;DR it’s a great, short read!

Historia
The remarkable stories of the world's most famous body parts. All too often, historical figures feel distant and abstract; more myth and legend than real flesh and blood. These stories of bodies and its parts remind us that history's most-loved, and most-hated, were real breathing creatures who inhabited organs and limbs just like us - until they're cut off that is. Medical historian Dr Suzie Edge investigates over 40 cases of how we've used, abused, dug up, displayed, experimented on, and worshipped body parts.

Empathy, humor, and body parts!
Revisado: 02-27-24
I loved this book as much as I loved her first book, Mortal Monarchs! I honestly could listen to Suzie talk about anything for hours, she’s both so incredibly knowledgeable and her oration style is just so easy to listen to. If you’re on the fence, give this a go! It’s definitely entertaining as enjoyable.

Felt forced…
Revisado: 06-21-23
This story was just okay in my opinion. It was clear they wanted to give Holdo and Leia more backstory and this was the vehicle for it. Holdo was a completely different person than she was portrayed on screen. It wasn’t a bad story just not one I would really consider reading again.

Historia
In this exciting true adventure mixed with amazing scientific study, a young, exuberant explorer and geoscientist journeys deep into the Amazon - where rivers boil and legends come to life. When Andrés Ruzo was just a small boy in Peru, his grandfather told him the story of a mysterious legend: There is a river, deep in the Amazon, that boils as if a fire burns below it. Twelve years later, Ruzo - now a geoscientist - hears his aunt mention that she herself had visited this strange river....

Passionately written and read!
Revisado: 05-26-23
I loved the storytelling in this book. Andrés begins with a legend he heard as a child as well as talking about his relationship with his great grandfather. Throughout the narrative, he speaks about the people, the land, and scientific study with such passion, exuberance, and respect that it’s difficult not to fall in love with this story and Peru. It’s a short read/listen that is informative as it is entertaining and it leaves you feeling good about the world. Highly recommend this amazing title!
