Historia
All it will ever be is a close friendship. That’s been Demetrius Singleton’s mantra for as long as he’s known his best friend, Cody Bower. It’s helped through the years as he’s watched Cody date practically every girl in town. Now several years out of college, Demetrius manages the business side of their brand new animal control service, Critter Catchers, while Cody acts as the idea man and finesses potential clients.

Started off good but quickly fell
Revisado: 02-25-21
I think the biggest problem with this book is that it was all rushed. Neither the story or the characters were well thought out, the actions and reactions weren’t believable, and there was barely any character development or growth. This is what I like to call a throwaway story. Short and sweet, but with little substance. It’s the kind of book to sit back and relax with that doesn’t require critical thought.
That said however, the narration-aside from lacking any real emotion to underline and bring life to tense moments-was good, and overall, the story was enjoyable for a throwaway.
I can’t say I wouldn’t recommend this book because I’m looking forward to the next one for another day when I just want to veg.

Historia
Deputy US Marshal Miro Jones finally has everything he ever wanted. He's head-over-heels in love and married to the man of his dreams, his partner Ian Doyle, he's doing well at work, and all his friends are in good places as well. Things are all tied up nicely, until they're not. Change has never been easy for Miro, and when situations at work force the team he's come to depend on to break apart, and worst of all, his and Ian's individual strengths put them on two separate paths, he's pretty certain everything just went up in smoke.

Seems like mostly flashbacks
Revisado: 07-24-18
This was extremely short despite being almost 9hrs long. There's a lot of flashbacks in it and the actual story is more like a novella. Great story, but just when it feels like its actually just starting it ends. So 4/5 for this one unfortunately.
I'm torn between recommending this book and not recommending this book. I hate having an incomplete series, so I'd recommend it just based on that, and there's a lot of important details in this book that (if there's another) you'll miss out on if you don't get this one. But is it really worth it? Well, honestly, if Mary Calmes doesn't publish another in the series, then I'd say no and leave book three as the ending.

Much better narrator than the first two
Revisado: 12-25-17
I was hesitant to get this because I really love this series and the first two books has bad narrators.... But I think they found a winner with Robert Nieman. This book, with Mr Nieman’s narration, was as good, if not better, than when I read it myself on kindle. I truly do love this series, and for me, it was important for them not to screw up the narration of this book because this is the first book of the series I read.

Revisado: 10-06-17
Okay, I’m still shocked by the plot twist at the end, so all I can say is that if you liked the first book and are looking to get this one than do it. Eden’s Gate is going to be epic in the next few books.

I tried to read this book originally on kindle but found it boring. Listening to it I feel that if I hadn't attempted to read it first I might have enjoyed it even more. It's a decent story and I'm looking forward to the second book.

Getting eaten alive is the worst! Stabbings, maimings, and corrosive black magic are not that great either, but you really don't want to be a wolf treat! That is the kind of hands on, "teeth on", education you get when you are summoned to the Land.

Not what I expected...
Revisado: 12-21-16
Would you listen to The Land: Founding again? Why?
Oh yes, I would definitely listen to it again. I love the way that the author set up The Land. I'm looking forward to book 2.
Any additional comments?
I really liked this book and can't wait for the second to come out, but I have to say that it was not what I expected. The Publisher's Summary given for this book sounds more like the overall summary for the series rather than what takes place in this book. Still a great book, just different from what I had been expecting based on the Publisher's Summary provided.

Historia
All Rath wants is a quiet, peaceful life. Unfortunately, his father brings him too much trouble - and too many debts to pay - for that to ever be possible. When the local crime lord drags Rath out of bed and tells him he has three days to pay his father's latest debt, Rath doesn't know what to do. There's no way to come up with so much money in so little time. Then a friend poses an idea just ridiculous enough to work: enter the Tournament of Losers, where every 75 years, peasants compete for the chance to marry into the noble and royal houses.

This book ended so abruptly that it kind of ruins the rest of the book sadly. Loved the story and wished it had continued on to the inevitable.

It's a filler
Revisado: 06-17-16
It pains me to write this...but I must be honest that this book was a little disappointing. I feel like the author wrote this as a filler between books. There are points in the story that just don't add up and I feel like things don't progress in a realistic way. If you take the book at face value you'll enjoy it, but if you always look at a book critically like I do then you might not enjoy this as much as you would if you didn't.

Historia
Sebastian Orwell did the only thing a smart wizard could do when he stumbled upon the wounded Crown Prince: He healed him and dumped him in a tavern where he could continue not being Sebastian's problem. Unfortunately, the prince isn't content with being alive, and he hunts Sebastian down to thank him personally. Not only is Sebastian stuck with the prince's unwanted affections, but he's also confronted by growing evidence linking the assassination attempt to someone from his father's past.

I want more
Revisado: 04-06-16
Would you listen to Family of Lies: Sebastian again? Why?
Yes I would listen to it again, I already have listened to it twice and intend on doing so again later in the week. This is a fantastic story that I just can't get enough of.
If you could take any character from Family of Lies: Sebastian out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Oh, that's a tough one. First one that comes to mind, of course, is Sebastian. But I think that his prince would be more than a little upset with me if I did that. Considering how powerful he is, I don't want to cross him. How about Craven, Sebastian's brother. He's sweet.
