Historia
Senta Pelham is a mirror image of Flora, the lovely marble bust Philip fanaticized about for so long. But life, like art, is not always what its mere surface suggests. And Senta’s strange world of make-believe, where truth and falsehood are eerily interchangeable, soon draws Philip into a shadowy cloister of vague and uncertain terror.

Well-written and creepy tale
Revisado: 11-13-20
I very much enjoyed this audiobook. This is the first Ruth Rendell book I’ve ever read or listened to and I’m so glad I have a few others of hers in my audiobook queue. I got this on the recommendation of of some person who had written a review of another audiobook (can’t remember which one) who had said that the creepiest book he had ever read was The Bridesmaid by Ruth Rendell. I also listened to a brief dramatization of this book but I found the unabridged version to be more filled-out and enjoyable. It’s really a psychological thriller and I found it very enjoyable. I became completely engrossed and invested in the characters. The narration is TOP NOTCH.

Historia
When she stumbles across the ad, she’s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss - a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten - by the luxurious “smart” home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family. What she doesn’t know is that she’s stepping into a nightmare - one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

Not as good as I expected
Revisado: 11-28-19
I have become quite a fan of Ruth Ware over the last few years. Her books when I listen to them I can’t stop listening and I can’t wait to find out what happens and I’ve been enthralled throughout pretty much the whole thing. This book was kind of slow. I was very excited to purchase it even though the reviews were not amazing. But I really liked Ruth Ware’s other books so I decided to give it a chance. A couple things, I felt that the story was pretty slow. I know that it was supposed to be suspenseful and that I was supposed to really be curious about what was happening and why, but I found that I I wasn’t really that interested. I also found it unbelievable that a 20 something-year-old would have such difficulty with a smart house and with all the apps and everything. I’m 50 and I struggle a little bit with some computer things but I feel pretty confident with electronics stuff because I use it a lot. I feel like a young person would have no problem with all the apps and stuff. I also thought the ending was a abrupt and did not adequately wrap up the ends that I had hoped it would. I was left with several questions about the fate of the characters. And I did care about the characters, the character development was pretty good. When it ended so abruptly, I suppose I felt some satisfaction but I also felt like what happened to Rowan? What happened to Ellie?I felt like there should’ve been another chapter to flush out the story and what had happened.
Imogene Church is an amazing reader and I love her voice and her inflections. She’ll always get five stars from me.

A good story with excellent narration
Revisado: 02-19-19
I very much enjoyed this audiobook. It held my interest all the way through, and was a compelling and sometimes sad story. Anna Bentinck gives an excellent performance. I would highly recommend this book to people who enjoy listening to psychological thrillers.

Enjoy this book. At the beginning it was a little apprehensive about the narrator is, because it took a while to get used to the cadence of their voices. soon I realized what excellent narrators they both are. As for the story, I enjoyed it. I think I questioned the possibility of the ending early into the book but I don’t tend to think too much about that so I enjoyed the story.

Historia
The Bird children have an idyllic childhood: a picture-book cottage in a country village, a warm, cosy kitchen filled with love and laughter, sun-drenched afternoons in a rambling garden. But one Easter weekend a tragedy strikes the Bird family that is so devastating it tears them apart. Many years later something will call them home, back to the house they grew up in - and to what really happened that Easter weekend all those years ago.

Interesting and enjoyable book
Revisado: 07-23-18
An enjoyable listen. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, as it's not the type of story I usually listen to. I usually listen to psychological thrillers, mystery, or horror fiction. It kept me interested all the way through and was an interesting insight into the dynamics of a family in which a parent is a hoarder. Karina Fernandez gave an excellent performance.

Historia
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

I bought this audiobook after purchasing and thoroughly enjoying The Girl on the Train by the same author. I thoroughly enjoyed The Girl on the Train. It was a concise, well thought out storyline, it had appropriate twists, I can never figure out "who done it" before the end of the book anyway. The readers who read The Girl on the Train did an amazing job--I enjoyed it so much so I purchased Into The Water having read some reviews that were somewhat disappointing, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.
I found this book to be somewhat interesting. I came away feeling like I wish there had been more of a supernatural angle. I also felt that there were too many points of view, and though each reader was a separate person, I still had some confusion trying to figure out whose point of view I was listening to. Also by 3/4 of the way through the book I didn't care what happened anymore. So I was disappointed in that. I did finish the book to the end and the ending was good, but getting there was somewhat tedious. I understand that it's hard to follow up a book that is a big hit with something successful, and I will continue to purchase and read Paula Hawkins in the future.

Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters. I listened to this audio in the car while commuting to and from work and I found I couldn't wait for the drive, just to listen to more of the story. It was suspenseful and the narrators were super, especially the main character who narrates the story. Some of the voices were a bit strange but overall the narration was fantastic. I found there was enough action to be interesting and enough description to create an atmosphere without getting tedious or boring. I'm glad I listened to the abridged version especially after reading reviews of the unabridged version.
I would highly recommend.
