Historia
Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate. It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

Historia
Fresh out of rehab, Mallory Quinn takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory immediately loves it. She has her own living space, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman’s lifeless body.

This was one of my favorite books of the year. Well written and performed. Wish I could find ten more like it. A touch of the supernatural and a well developed mystery. Loved it.

“I’m sorry but the answer’s no.” Reluctant author, Anthony Horowitz, has had enough. He tells ex-detective Daniel Hawthorne that after three books he’s splitting and their deal is over. The truth is that Anthony has other things on his mind. His new play, a thriller called Mindgame, is about to open at the Vaudeville Theater in London’s West End. Not surprisingly, Hawthorne declines a ticket to the opening night. The play is panned by the critics. In particular, Sunday Times critic Margaret Throsby gives it a savage review, focusing particularly on the writing.

Love this series
Revisado: 01-17-23
As with the previous Hawthorne book, I love that the author is present in the story. It makes me feel as if we get to know his personality a bit. I do hope there will be more books. Enjoyed the nod to Agatha Christie. Overall, an excellent story, extremely well plotted and performed. Comfortable to listen to without being a “cozy,” engaging but not scary, not easy to guess the outcome. If there are more stories out there with these qualities please include them in your own review so we can see them. With all the books in the world, it seems it would be easy to find an excellent Audible, but I find books such as these less common.

Historia
Is there something wrong with Ginette Cox? It’s what everyone seems to think. When a doctor suggests that what she might need is less excitement, she packs up and moves from New York City to a house in suburban NY: 19 Howard Ave. The town offers Ginette little in the way of entertainment in 1959, but at least she has interesting neighbors. Whether it’s the little girl with her doll or the couple and their mother-in-law, Ginette watches them from her window and makes up names and stories for them.

Why so short? Why re-enacted?
Revisado: 10-23-22
I liked all the other books this author wrote, but not this one. I preordered and was surprised this title was so short. Aside from that, the story never really felt like something I could lose myself in.
In addition, I am puzzled why this story was re-enacted so dramatically by the narrator. I found it distracting. I felt like I was listening to a play. I would think I would like this better than I did. The screeching in a couple scenes was very unpleasant. I had to stop and start it several times to get through it. Perhaps others would like that better. I suspect the narrator is a lovely actress. But it felt like more dramatization than I prefer.
I love this genre-spooky mystery-but was disappointed in this offering.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Delightful
Revisado: 08-10-22
I selected based on reviews, despite being different than my usual listen. I cannot imagine anyone not liking it. Give it a minute if you are used to a super fast pace at the beginning. Very worth it. Made me reflect on what matters in life, and savor those pleasures a bit more.

Historia
One day, on her way to a date, Isabella Huffington gets hit by a bike. What begins as a concussion with a diagnosed recovery time of seven-to-ten days becomes more than two years of debilitating pain with no apparent end and a string of unhelpful doctor and specialist visits. In the wreckage, jobs are canceled. Leases are broken. There is no second date. What’s left is Isabella, her body, and her pain. Because the source of her pain cannot be located within the body, she is told over and over that her pain is psychosomatic. And Isabella believes it, over and over.

By sharing your own path you give hope to those who are navigating theirs.
A hopeful, honest, vulnerable story. A good example of the twists and turns of life and the importance of patience and the power of the “frame” we put on things. I loved the shift about moving from being scared about not knowing the future to being excited about it. Highly recommend.

Historia
The day Anna McDonald's quiet, respectable life explodes starts off like all the days before: Packing up the kids for school, making breakfast, listening to yet another true crime podcast. Then her husband comes downstairs with an announcement, and Anna is suddenly, shockingly alone. Reeling, desperate for distraction, Anna returns to the podcast. Other people's problems are much better than one's own - a sunken yacht, a murdered family, a hint of international conspiracy. But this case actually is Anna's problem. She knows one of the victims from an earlier life.

Best book I have read in some time
Revisado: 03-05-20
Loved the story telling approach, and the mysteries within the mystery. I was not sure where she was taking us at first, but so glad I stayed. Would be very interested in other books like this one. It put me in mind (style wise) if the 13th Tale. Narration was beyond superb. If you review and loved this as much as I did, please include where we can find others like this one. So sorry it had to end.
