Historia
First published in 1988 - just four years after Capote's death - Clarke paints a vivid behind-the-scenes picture of the author's life, based on hundreds of hours of in-depth interviews with the man himself and the people close to him. From the glittering heights of notoriety and parties with the rich and famous to his later struggles with addiction, Capote emerges as a richly multidimensional person - both brilliant and flawed.

Borrinngg!
Revisado: 03-12-24
Fouses way too much on minute and unimportant details and doesn't move the story along. Capote was anything but boring, but I couldn't even get halfway through this book.

Historia
The Court of François I is full of lust, intrigue, and bawdy bon temps—a different world from the quiet country life Diane de Poitiers led with her elderly husband. Now a widow, the elegant Diane is called back to Court, where the King's obvious interest marks her as an enemy to the King's favorite, Anne d'Heilly. The Court is soon electrified by rumors of their confrontations. As Anne calls on her most venomous tricks to drive Diane away, Diane finds an ally in the one member of Court with no allegiance to the King's mistress: his teenage second son, Henri.

Am I Missing Something??
Revisado: 09-05-23
I'm not sure I understand all the rave reviews of this book. I still have seven hours left and I can go no further. It's SO boring! Literally a third of the book should have been cut. Great narrator, but OMG, did this thing need an editor. There's no plot after Henri becomes King. It just rambles on and on.

Historia
Defying both civil authorities and the Mormon establishment in Salt Lake City, the renegade leaders of these Taliban-like theocracies are zealots who answer only to God; some 40,000 people still practice polygamy in these communities. At the core of Krakauer’s book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith.

Boring AF!
Revisado: 04-17-23
Like some others, I thought this book was going to be about the Lafferty family and Brenda's murder. That story is
only on the periphery. Instead, it goes on and on and on about the whole history of Mormonism read by a narrator who sounds like a 1960's newscaster. I'm trying to stick with it but I'm failing...

I'd Listen to Stefan Rudnicki Read the Phone Book
Revisado: 02-04-22
I'm a huge fan of this narrator, having listened to several of his other readings. I think his interpretations and voice are marvelous. That being said, I'm finding the book itself hard to get through. Am I missing something? Parts of it are interesting, but I'm into the 10th hour and most of it is so tedious I want to give up and turn on Netflix. I'm hanging in there because reviewers say it gets better and well, I love me my Stefan.

Was Bianca Amato Busy?
Revisado: 01-27-22
The book is excellent if you can get past the narrator. She sounds bored, condescending and overly precious, talks too fast and has no emotion or melody in her voice whatsoever. If the book itself weren't so riveting, I would have returned it. Please, please, Ms. Rappaport, get someone else to narrate your books!! (Like the fabulous Ms. Amato?).

Historia
Welcome to the era of true marriages of convenience. Discover the reality of trading someone’s hand in marriage, such as an American heiress, in exchange for money, power, or political clout through compelling history lectures. Showcased in novels such as Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence and in present day pop culture through works like Downtown Abbey, the Gilded Age was an era of contradictions. Life on both sides of the Atlantic was grimy and glamorous, prosperous and impoverished, traditional and revolutionary.

OMG that Voice!!
Revisado: 11-28-21
I couldn't listen to this for very long. The narrator's voice is just AWFUL. I felt like I was being shouted at by Sarah Silverman. In fact, I'd rather be shouted at by Sarah Silverman (at least with Sarah I'd know it was meant to be comical).

One of My Favorites
Revisado: 07-15-21
I'm a huge C.W. Gortner Fan, and, like another reviewer, re-read this book at least once a year. Everything about it is superb - the story, the pitch-perfect narration, the way Gortner makes you care intensely about his characters and what will happen next. As a writer myself, I am just in awe of his craft. If you love historical fiction, this is a must for your library.

Historia
They were the Princess Dianas of their day—perhaps the most photographed and talked about young royals of the early twentieth century. The four captivating Russian Grand Duchesses—Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia Romanov—were much admired for their happy dispositions, their looks, the clothes they wore and their privileged lifestyle. Over the years, the story of the four Romanov sisters and their tragic end in a basement at Ekaterinburg in 1918 has clouded our view of them, leading to a mass of sentimental and idealized hagiography.

Ugh!! The narrator!
Revisado: 07-02-21
I really wanted to get through this book, but the narrator was so awful I had to stop. What possessed her to read it in a smug, too-fast, at times unintelligible monotone as if she was a drunk at a cocktail party??

Did Patrizia kill her ex-husband because his spending was wildly out of control? Or is it possible Patrizia didn’t do it at all?

One of the Most Boring Books I've Ever Listened To
Revisado: 04-25-21
…And that's saying a lot. Based on the title, I thought this would be a juicy, dramatic true-crime story. Instead, like another reviewer mentioned, it read like a text book. I almost expected there to be a quiz at the end of it. They're making THIS into a movie??

Good Story Badly Told
Revisado: 03-28-21
What could have been a great story was so poorly written that I couldn't finish. The author has no earthly idea how to build suspense and drama, which, given the subject matter, should have been a breeze! Every time the author reached an important plot point s/he over-explained to the point of boredom with trivial details and veered off-subject. The narrator sounded like she was auditioning for a Telemundo soap-opera. Utter drivel. If you're a writer, you will cringe reading this!
