Historia
In the summer of 2022, Lee Berger lost 50 pounds in order to wriggle though impossibly small openings in the Rising Star cave complex in South Africa—spaces where his team has been unearthing the remains of Homo naledi, a proto-human likely to have coexisted with Homo sapiens some 250,000 years ago. Lead researcher Berger had never made his way into the dark, cramped, dangerous underground spaces where many of the naledi fossils had been found. Now he was ready to do so. Once inside the cave, Berger made shocking new discoveries that expand our understanding of this early hominid.

Nice Read
Revisado: 02-14-24
this book was able to draw me in, I imagined I was in some of the scenarios they were describing, or at least able to visualize it in my mind. A lot of times when I’m reading it’s either ink that I’m seeing or just words that I’m hearing when they’re audible.

Every day, while her immigrant parents clean the rooms, 10-year-old Mia manages the front desk of the Calivista Motel and tends to its guests. Number two: Her parents hide immigrants. And if the mean motel owner, Mr. Yao, finds out they've been letting them stay in the empty rooms for free, the Tangs will be doomed. Number three: She wants to be a writer. But how can she when her mom thinks she should stick to math because English is not her first language?

Front Desk REFRESHING!
Revisado: 05-14-23
I burn through so many books of all different genres; tired of adults, science, fiction, political, travel and many others. Happened to listen to another children’s book with my daughter, which led me to this book and was delighted not have to hear any of the above genres cussing or anything sexual in nature. Amazing story of perseverance, that I shared with my eight-year-old daughter. It’s nice to see that people from other parts of the world still believe that America is a place where dreams and hopes come to be realized. Even if here in America, those of us born here see things declining. Wholeheartedly recommend!

Historia
Shamus Award winner and Edgar Award nominee Don Winslow combines breathless suspense, zany wit, and whiplash action in his latest novel featuring grad student/private eye Neal Carey. Now Neal is assigned to escort monkeyish octogenarian Natty Silver home from Las Vegas to Palm Springs. Natty, once a burlesque top banana, has a nonstop barrage of corny jokes, an eye for an aging cocktail waitress, and a chronic disappearing act.

Historia
In this 1996 Minnesota Book Award winner, Kent Nerburn draws the listener deep into the world of an Indian elder known only as Dan. It’s a world of Indian towns, white roadside cafes, and abandoned roads that swirl with the memories of the Ghost Dance and Sitting Bull. Listeners meet vivid characters like Jumbo, a 400-pound mechanic, and Annie, an 80-year-old Lakota woman living in a log cabin. Threading through the audiobook is the story of two men struggling to find a common voice.

Neither Wolf nor Dog
Revisado: 11-17-21
Having lived in northern New Mexico and skirting it’s many reservations, this book just let me know when driving by, everything I was thinking was romanticized and skewed. It was like looking into the mirror and saying this guy has a serious points to almost about everything that he talks about which is almost about everything. Author did good to you as well as reader I was able to leave words and disappear into my imagination to those places like a car with its hood up and the dogs running around The little to room home in the middle of nowhere it was neat.Awesome book!

Historia
Living in El Paso, just a mile from the Rio Grande, Octavio is a skinny brown kid on the border, riding his bike out into the desert, growing up among those who live there and those passing through on their way north. Rituals of childhood and rites of passage are remembered as singular, dramatic events, moments of trauma and transformation with life-changing reverberations.

Historia
Most of us have instinctive evidence the world is ending - balmy December days, face-to-face conversation replaced with heads-to-screens zomboidism, a world at constant war, a political system in disarray. We hear some myths and lies so frequently that they feel like truths: Civilization is humankind’s greatest accomplishment. Progress is undeniable. Count your blessings. You’re lucky to be alive here and now. Civilized to Death counters the idea that progress is inherently good, arguing that the "progress" defining our age is analogous to an advancing disease.

Wow
Revisado: 11-14-19
This author is so insightful but covers such a large swath of subjects that I have to immediately listen to this book again to make sure I didn’t miss anything and to remember profound yet grossly obvious observations. Sad to know the direction our world is heading. WOW!
