Historia
I'm not your average girl. My best friend is my switchblade. My favorite hobby is using it on the cruel, the abusive, and anyone who gets on my bad side. I'm a convicted murderer with a chip on my shoulder and a dangerous lack of restraint. And then there's Zak. His rap sheet makes mine look tame. The bounty on his head is worth more money than I'll ever make, and the deadly fae that shadow his every step wield more power than I'll ever know. He's the Crystal Druid, and his first mistake was setting foot on my turf. His second was saving my life.

Fake facts ruin the fantasy
Revisado: 04-28-25
Fantasy should be surprising a trip away from the real world but 'facts' from the real world that are silly and fake detract from the story. I will not listen to this author again even though some of her books are quite entertaining.

Historia
When buried bones are unearthed by a storm in North Yorkshire’s picturesque coastal town of Whitby, Black is drawn into an investigation that takes him back to the late eighties and the fiery demise of a popular pub. Frank is no stranger to vulnerability. With a shattered daughter, he lives with it. With an outsider in Detective Inspector Gerry Carver, he works with it. And in Charlotte Wilson, a young, eighteen-year-old musician discarded and buried near the old whalebones of Whitby, he recognizes it.

Disappointing character development
Revisado: 04-22-25
Most of the characters were unlikeable. I enjoyed the autistic detective but would have liked more character development .

Friendly Wizard Meets Sudden End
Revisado: 12-03-24
The wizard is friendly and resides in a rural community. There are no rules of magic in this universe and there is very little action in this book; it is safe for any audience. I was looking forward to the wizard meeting the Fae when the book suddenly ended on a cliffhanger, as if it had been cut in half. I will buy the second half of the book but it is unlikely that I will buy any more books by this author as I do not like the use of cliffhangers to force the reader to buy a further books. I enjoyed how Eric Burgher brought the characters to life.

Too many mouth sounds for this listener
Revisado: 05-15-24
I was unable to listen to book or comment on story due to distracting mouth sounds. This audio needs to be cleaned up before selling it to listeners. I love this series and this was not a problem with previous books and so please fix the audio.

Plausible world, without character development
Revisado: 10-23-23
The author states that this series will streeetch out over a 10 year period. The focus in the first book was on building a plausible world, magic system, etc., without an interesting story or character development, which will occur come in later books. I do not recommend this book unless you like to watch paint dry or would enjoy listening to Luke while he build his life saber stretched out over a 9 hour period. This book ends on a Cliff hanger. Hopefully the author will make an abridged version of this book available in place of this book. I will wait for reviews of future additions to series, before purchasing the book.

Historia
Ryan wakes up to find his contractor dad building walls to turn their big old house into a duplex. The family that moves into the other side includes Bizzy Horvat, the pretty girl he has a crush on at school. Bizzy claims her mother is a witch with the power to curse people with clumsiness or, in Bizzy’s case, astonishing beauty. When a bee gets caught in Bizzy’s hair, Ryan acts so quickly and radically to save her from getting stung that he attracts the attention of a group of micropotents - people with micropowers.

A fail for Orson Scott Card
Revisado: 09-05-23
I listened to the first book in this series, Lost and Found, and really enjoyed it. I purchased Duplex as soon as I finished the first book in the series, but it was if it was written by a different author. I stopped two thirds of the way through the book because the story is focused on a teenage romance and the juvenile activities of their friends. Neither the story or the characters were interesting to me. I am disappointed in this book as it was no not up to the high standards usually set by OSC.

Cambridge, 1354. Christmas approaches, and the town is gripped by the worst blizzards in living memory. As the physician Matthew Bartholomew struggles to help the poorer citizens cope with freezing temperatures, his colleagues prepare for the festivities. The weather has trapped many travellers in the town, including Matthew's erstwhile love, Philippa. She and her wealthy husband are invited to Michaelhouse for the main feast, and Matthew is horrified that he does not immediately recognise the overweight, sulky woman who once stole his heart.

Murder and bad behavior is rewarded
Revisado: 08-12-23
Found this book to be the least enjoyable book in the series thus far. There are no light moments, just nasty people engaging in activities to increase wealth or power. I hope the author returns to writing books that lighten my day and does not focus on the darker nature of people.

Poorly developed characters and cliffhanger ending
Revisado: 07-06-23
I tried many times over several days to listen to this book but could not get past the cardboard characters and the lack of an engaging story. When I learned that the book ended on cliffhangers, and the author intended to write 6 books in this series, I stopped attempting to listen to it.

Revisado: 06-02-23
Story moves very slowly and some of the main characters are annoying. The story improves toward the end, but too little too late. I will avoid this author in the future.
