Historia
Be ready for some action, humor, and mystery in this anthology with short stories. You’ll listen about gangsters, witches, magic potions, interrogations, werewolves, and murder. Several stories have a murder victim, while others are all about theft or robberies. But in many cases, they spark the imagination and make up for a great way to sit back, relax, and read or listen to stories from a completely different world.

Really, Audible!?
Revisado: 09-12-22
I now know that I must sample any new/unknown author found on Audible. I had been lulled into a confidence that, if offered here, there was a basic standard that one could expect.
This book has shattered that confidence completely.
The one value this book could have is to serve as a “how not to” in an entry level course/seminar for aspiring writers.
The shallow characters in totally unbelievable circumstances, along with the a distinct inability to decide on a genre. makes these stories reek of amateurism.
The narrator’s skills are proportionate to the quality of the writing and pour a bit more salt into the literary wound.
I forced myself to listen to the entire book as a punishment for wasting a credit on it.

Fire this narrator!!!
Revisado: 09-09-22
This is the second book I have purchased with this narrator. I reviewed the first book by him and gave him a terrible review. I renew my negative review of this narration now. This narrator destroys good books. It is unfair for purchasers to have a good book entirely ruined by the poor quality and diction of this narrator. The piano playing in the background is absolutely unjustified. I am a regular customer of audible and this is one exception.

Historia
Willa Cather was perhaps most famous for her great novels such as My Antonia and Death Comes to the Archbishop. However, her short stories were enchanting and practical, local and cosmopolitan. Of the great American writers of the early part of the twentieth century she stood alone in her vision. No American writer ever had her breadth of experience and knowledge of people and places, relating to farmers in Nebraska, to barons in New York, and artists in Paris.

Excellent book; awful narrator
Revisado: 12-28-16
I am a devotee of audiobooks and this is the first time in my use of audible that the experience of the book has been significantly diminished by the deficiencies of the narrator.
As I was listening to his introduction, which was well done, I was certain that he would not be the narrator of the text. I was sorely disappointed to hear him begin the first story and there was no improvement throughout the book.
The timbre of his voice, his lack of appreciation for phrasing and a generally roughshod approach to the text left a sour taste in my mouth.
These stories are wonderful and they deserve a professional narrator.
I hope never again to hear a book in this manner.
