These are the best new mysteries
Revisado: 03-18-25
This is a wonderful series. In fact I think it’s a little bit better than my former favorites by Benedict Brown. Wonderful characters, great stories and the narrator does a great job of bouncing between British, American and Australian accents.Definitely worth a try.

Historia
When the police arrive at the holiday bungalow of the haughty Justice Ireton to find a man killed by gunshot and the high court judge brandishing a pistol, the case seems as straightforward as it is scandalous. Yet, with the incongruous assemblage of physical evidence, the judge's denial of any participation in the crime and the recent events of his daughter's love life combined, the deceptively simple case is soon steeped in complexity. At a loss in the bizarre circumstances, the local force calls in the larger-than-life sleuth Dr Gideon Fell.

The narrator was terrible and the ending wasn’t that great either. Don’t waste your credit.

One of the best books I’ve heard in a long time
Revisado: 12-10-24
This very long book was one that I totally enjoyed. The contrasts and likenesses between characters was stark but there are times when this truly reflects reality. This book shows the fight between good and evil in the world. I wish that I was a Betty but realize that I am much more of a Rosalie.

A little different
Revisado: 11-14-24
This book is a little different from Grace Livingston Hill’s other book. There is very little dialogue and a lot of the character’s internal dialogue. But I think this is one of her best books.

Historia
Strange things happen in the picture-postcard English village of Lindsay Carfax. When a young man falls into a quarry, it takes nine days to find the body. When rowdy hippies descend on the village, they're given nine days to leave. When an outspoken schoolmaster is kidnapped for nine days, he stays eerily quiet after his release. Now Albert Campion has come to town - and he means to investigate all this strangeness. But whoever is behind the unusual goings - on quickly makes it very clear that his nosing around is not welcome.

I loved this book
Revisado: 11-20-19
Mike Ripley did a very good job of keeping the Margery Allingham distinctions in this book. It did flag occasionally but never for long enough to detract from the book. A lot of humor and hearing it in David Thorpe’s voice was the final touch that made this book so entertaining.

Historia
Miss Pettigrew is a down-on-her-luck, middle-aged governess sent by her employment agency to work for a nightclub singer rather than a household of unruly children. Over a period of 24 hours, as she becomes caught up in the life of Delysia LaFloss, her own life is changed - forever. This charming, funny, light-hearted 1938 novel was a bestseller on its first appearance. Read by Academy Award winning actress Frances McDormand, who stars in the 2008 film as Miss Pettigrew.

The story is really very good but it is the reader that makes it excel. I really don't think I've heard a book read as well as this one is.
