Historia
Henry Fonda and James Stewart were two of the biggest stars in Hollywood for 40 years. They became friends and then roommates as stage actors in New York, and when they began making films in Hollywood, they roomed together again. Between them they made such memorable films as The Grapes of Wrath, Mister Roberts, Twelve Angry Men, and On Golden Pond; and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Destry Rides Again, The Philadelphia Story, It's a Wonderful Life, Vertigo, and Rear Window.

Historia
In rural Wisconsin, wonder clashes dangerously with corporate greed when an alien visitor opens up a gateway through time into a breathtaking prehistoric lost world. On sabbatical from teaching at a small university, paleontologist Asa Steele is content to relax amid the pastoral splendor of his Wisconsin farm. That is until his dog starts bringing home unrecognizable artifacts and, strangest of all, fresh dinosaur bones.

That said, it’s a beautifully rendered story and the character ‘Catface’ was startlingly creative. Loved the audio performance as well!

Historia
Apollo is the behind-the-scenes story of an epic achievement. Based on exhaustive research that included many exclusive interviews, Apollo tells how America went from a standing start to a landing on the moon at a speed that now seems impossible. It describes the unprecedented engineering challenges that had to be overcome to create the mammoth Saturn V and the facilities to launch it. It takes you into the tragedy of the fire on Apollo 1, the first descent to the lunar surface, and the rescue of Apollo 13.

The best book on Apollo that I’ve read.
Revisado: 05-27-23
Focusing on the creators, engineers, and the crew who staffed ground control was a revelation. That the book was written while so many were still alive makes this a document that cannot be produced today. An incredible book.

The Wreck of the Titan

Historia
Robertson's story, written 14 years before the historic event it presaged, parallels the descriptions and fate of the Titanic with psychic precision. His tale, however, doesn't end with the passengers' watery demise; rather, it chronicles the detective work instigated by members of Lloyd's of London, embroiling Scotland Yard, when word comes in that the heavily insured ship has sunk to the bottom of the ocean.

Dated story with the gimmick that it predated the Titanic disaster by 14 years
Revisado: 02-18-23
The story may be dated but the similarities to the Titanic sinking are eerie. Robertson’s ship is the Titan. It hit an iceberg and sank in the vicinity of the titanic’s wreckage today.
What sets this book apart is the stellar performance by Frederick Davidson, one of Blackstone Audio’s best readers. His work on the Jeeves and Wooster novels by P.G. Wodehouse is genius.
A hidden bonus is the inclusion, after the novella, of biographical sketches of “Morg” himself, including an autobiographical article. These give us fascinating glimpses into Robertson the man, the author, and his times.

Historia
When we seek an example of great leaders with unalloyed courage, the person who comes to mind is Winston Churchill: the iconic, visionary war leader immune from the consensus of the day, who stood firmly for his beliefs when everyone doubted him. But how did young Winston become Churchill? What gave him the strength to take on the superior force of Nazi Germany when bombs rained on London and so many others had caved? In this landmark biography of Winston Churchill based on extensive new material, the true genius of the man, statesman, and leader can finally be fully understood.

One of the greatest biographies I’ve read
Revisado: 02-03-23
Andrew Roberts is a graceful writer who is fully up to capturing the scope and drama of one of the 20th century’s most important figures. He brings Churchill alive, using recently-available materials (like the King’s and other diaries) to split the white-hot light of Churchill’s towering presence into an endless rainbow filled with shards of color and meaning. One can’t help but think of the colorful butterflies Churchill loved so.
The audio book is hands-down the best audio book production I’ve enjoyed (and I’m an audio book fiend—I love the luxury of being read to).
Mr. Thorne delivers 50 hours of undiluted pleasure. His delivery is perfect for the material and he delivers Churchill quotes in Churchill’s voice! It adds a layer of depth, dimension, and fun to this magisterial book.
I found myself rereading large passages that I had read at night by listening to Thorne’s performance in the car.
I’m saddened this morning that I’ve finished the book. I’ve lost a friend and will look forward to rereading this book and exploring more of Roberts’ work.

Incredible book. Hire a professional reader.
Revisado: 07-28-22
I’m in love with audio books and whenever I can, buy the kindle and the synced audio book so I can read on the go and pickup where I left off on my kindle.
Ryan and his co-author have done an amazing job of giving us thumbnail sketches of prominent Stoics up to Marcus Aurelius. The content is five stars.
But Ryan is a terrible reader. If people want to hear him, that’s great, but please offer a professionally-read version as an option. Ryan is monotone with the exact same emphasis on every sentence. A great reader (and let’s face it, the best are usually British), varies the music of intonation, creating an absorbing experience.
And then there are the pronunciation issues. Deadlines don’t excuse rushing.
Piety is not PEE-ity.
Brigand is not brig-AND.
Comely is not COM-ly with a long o, as in lonely.
Claudius’s son Britanicus is not also called Britannica.
Calls and cries out do not go “unhealed” they are unheeded.
