Historia
Well, this year, after the Spring Planting season, I’m really gonna relax and put down roots. It’s the slow life for me. Sure, the talking animals and cultivators coming to live with me are a bit weird, but this year everything is gonna be basically normal. There definitely won’t be any Heavenly Tribulations, ancient formations, or cultivator issues to deal with . . .

Wonderfully Entertaining
Revisado: 06-22-23
Thoroughly enjoyed Beware of Chicken 2! Wonderful tale, masterfully performed. Funny and lots of fun. Just the right amount of fantasy. Great storytelling that makes some profound points without being preachy. The performance is perfection! Highly recommend to fans and to folks who are new to the series.

Historia
Evelyn Maltravers understands exactly how little she's worth on the marriage mart. As an incurable bluestocking from a family tumbling swiftly toward ruin, she knows she'll never make a match in a ballroom. Her only hope is to distinguish herself by making the biggest splash in the one sphere she excels: on horseback. In haute couture. But to truly capture London's attention she'll need a habit-maker who's not afraid to take risks with his designs - and with his heart.

Wonderfully Romantic, Surprising and Diverting
Revisado: 01-14-23
I had no preconceptions going in. I happen to be a biracial fashion historian who loves horses- I felt like this book was written just for me. I loved the detailed (historically accurate) descriptions of the lovely gowns. The examination of what it means to be mixed was surprisingly poignant and echoed much of my lived experience. I think fans of Jane Austen will enjoy this book. The writing is delightfully poetic. I generally veer away from romance novels. While romantic, this novel avoids feeling formulaic. The narration, especially the performance of Vidish Athavale was excellent.

After the loss of her parents, she moves to rural Yorkshire to live with a distant uncle where she resents the wildness of the countryside. At first, she struggles to find a place in this new existence. A Delightful and Engaging Performance
Revisado: 02-12-22
This book is so engaging it pulls you in. The writing is vivid and captivating. You can see everything in your mind’s eye from the lovely picture painted by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The character development is wonderful and the story is delicious. Come along as Mary, a sour, sullen, lonely child begins to bloom and learns to love. Carrie Hope Fletcher does a fantastic job giving each character a voice. She brings the story to life! Her “broad Yorkshire”, so important to the story, is delightful to hear. Fletcher transports us to 1901, Misselthwaite Manor on the Yorkshire moor. So much is gained from sharing this story in audiobook format. Enjoy!

A Lovely Tale Beautifully Read
Revisado: 02-10-22
What a wonderful story. No wonder it’s a classic that has been adapted and adapted into film. The English was plain and simple enough for all my children to enjoy it with me. The story was deep and meaningful enough to engage my heart as an adult. With all the stresses of modern life it was a comforting respite to escape into Sarah’s world, even as she endured her hardships and troubles. It has a good moral without being preachy. An audiobook the whole family can enjoy, delightfully read by Johanna Ward. Ignore the cover art, Burnett only mentions, a dozen times or more, that Sarah has black hair 😄

Delightful- A weird and wonderful tale
Revisado: 02-08-22
A weird and wonderful fairytale beautifully retold. I loved the book and was excited when I saw a full cast recording offered by Audible. I really enjoyed this performance, which also captivated my 16 year old son. Shanon Hale sharing her thoughts on adapting the fairytale into a novel at the end was the cherry on top. You won’t want to stop listening.

Delightful and Unexpected
Revisado: 04-26-21
I am a card carrying member of the Jane Austen Society of North America. My opinions on Austen have been featured in many publications. I’ve hosted multiple Jane Austen retreats and even an online conference with speakers and Austen scholars from around the world. So, you could say I’m a fan. As many times as I’ve read Pride and Prejudice, this parallel retelling surprised and delighted me. It was fresh, funny, poignant, thought provoking and thoroughly enjoyable. Even if you are not a fan of Austen, you’ll like this book. I loved the delicious descriptions of beautiful people, clothing, food and art. The author paints a picture with words so vivid it will stay with you long after you’re done with the book. Soniah Kamal does an absolutely superb job narrating. It’s hard to believe she is the author because she’s such a captivating and entertaining actor! This Janeite highly recommends Unmarriageable. You’re welcome.

Revisado: 03-05-21
Snowfall was not the dragon I was hoping for but she definitely didn’t disappoint, her crazy paranoia was a bit annoying but the book was SO good. I got all sad in the middle bc there wasn’t that much left. Can we all have a moment in silence for winter not coming on the quest to annoy qibli(quintet and all). I kinda wish snowfall had a vision from clear sights point of view tho. Very sad and excited for the next book,we’re gonna have to wait SO long! Well good vibes and let’s hope we don’t go crazy form waiting.
